Pu To Co Peak at an altitude of 1,700m, used to be an important observation post of our army during the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.
From December 13-14, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien, the Department of Education and Training, and the Dien Bien Provincial Youth Union will coordinate to organize the Pu To Co Peak Climbing Competition "Explore Muong Thanh Basin" and the 2025 Dien Bien Provincial Youth Cross-Country Competition with the theme "Let's go back to Muong Phang".
Pu To Co Peak, Muong Phang Commune, at an altitude of 1,700m above sea level, is the highest peak of the Pu Don mountain range and was chosen by General Vo Nguyen Giap and the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command to place an Observatory to monitor and grasp the situation and developments on the battlefield in the Muong Thanh basin.
Along with the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Headquarters, the Observatory on the top of Pu To Co Mountain has become a historical relic associated with the victory of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign "Resounding throughout the five continents, shaking the earth".
The tournament aims to build a unique sports tourism product, combining physical training with promoting historical and cultural relics.
The Pu To Co Peak Climbing Competition aims to build a unique sports tourism product, combining physical training with promoting the historical and cultural relics of Muong Phang - Muong Thanh in particular, and Dien Bien province in general.
Accordingly, the competition venue is in Muong Phang commune, focusing on the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Headquarters relic site and Pu To Co peak.
Participants are cadres, civil servants, public employees, workers; students, teenagers; officers and soldiers of the armed forces; people of all ethnic groups in the province and athletes from outside the province who want to register.
On the stages of conquering Pu To Co peak, athletes and tourists will experience and explore the beauty of nature and people of Muong Phang.
Athletes participated in 2 events, with 12 competition events. In the mountain climbing event, there were 4 individual and team events for men and women, with a distance of 8km, starting from the Reception House yard of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Relic Site, conquering Pu To Co peak. In the cross-country event, there were 8 events divided into 2 age groups: from 16 years old and up with a distance of 10km for men, 5km for women; teenagers from 15 years old and under with a distance of 5km for men, 3km for women, running on the route around the General Vo Nguyen Giap Memorial Site and Vo Nguyen Giap Secondary School.
Units and athletes register to participate and send to the Department of Physical Education and Sports Management, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien, before December 5.

The organizers said that the Pu To Co Mountain Climbing Competition aims to educate the young generation about historical traditions and patriotism and to promote the beauty of the land, nature and people of Dien Bien. During the competition stages, activities such as visiting relics, experiencing culture and performing arts will be arranged to create a vibrant atmosphere, attracting a large number of people and tourists.
