This morning (November 23), a small piece of paper, wrapped in plastic, with just the above lines written on it, was spread on social media. Along with it were two phone numbers, clearly stating the number of the character’s father and mother.
Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Ms. Ta Thi Thanh Thuy (in Khanh Hoa), Duy's mother, said that this was indeed a handwritten note her son left behind before going to help flood victims.
“My job doesn’t allow me to use my phone, so this morning after work I turned on my phone and saw a lot of missed calls. I was shocked to learn that my son had left a note to help in the flooded area.
Even though my child is from a coastal area and knows how to swim, as parents, we are still very worried. However, he has decided to help people, we pray for his safety and do not hinder him,” Ms. Thuy said worriedly.

According to Ms. Thuy, Hoang Bao Duy is the only son in the family. Duy is currently a third-year student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry.
“At 5:30 a.m. on November 19, I rode my motorbike from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang, traveling all night and nearly 400km,” said Ms. Thuy.
As soon as he got home, Duy immediately ran to his grandmother’s house, about 7-8km away, to take her to safety, as the house was flooded up to the first floor. After finishing his family matters, Duy asked his parents to let him go to help with the relief work. Since then, the young man has only been home once.

When going to relief work, Duy always wears a string with a piece of paper on it with his parents' name and phone number on it.
“My child called his parents and encouraged us to rest assured because he was traveling with a large group, but I was still very worried because this flood was terrible, something I hadn’t seen in about 40 years,” said Ms. Thuy.
According to the people in the group, the area where Duy went to provide relief was a deep, heavily flooded area, making it difficult for rescue teams to access. Bao Duy knew how to swim and had a certificate, so the group allowed him to go to provide relief to the people as assigned. Duy was very enthusiastic and is safe.
Statistics as of this morning show that floods in the central provinces have left 102 people dead or missing; economic damage is estimated at 9,035 billion VND.
