Hon Gai Mechanical Joint Stock Company - Vinacomin is a leading unit in the field of manufacturing mining equipment, precision mechanics, lifting equipment and supporting industrial products under the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV). At the end of 2024, the Company invested in putting into operation three production lines of high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) rollers, including two fully automatic lines and one semi-automatic line. This is the first factory in Vietnam to master the technology of manufacturing rollers from high molecular weight polyethylene - a super durable material with many superior features that has been widely applied in heavy industry in the world.
With an average capacity of 60,000 products per year, the high molecular plastic roller products of Hon Gai Mechanical Joint Stock Company are being supplied to many large units, such as: Cua Ong Coal Selection Company, Ha Lam Coal Joint Stock Company and Lam Dong Aluminum Company Limited. The products are mainly used in conveyor systems for transporting coal, minerals, and alumina. These are harsh working environments, requiring equipment with high durability, good abrasion resistance and stable operation for a long time.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ruc, Deputy Director of Hon Gai Mechanical Joint Stock Company, said: Compared to traditional steel rollers with an average lifespan of only about 2 years, high-molecular plastic rollers produced by Hon Gai Mechanical can operate continuously for 5-6 years. Not only more durable, plastic rollers are also about 1/3 lighter in weight, making it easy for workers to disassemble and assemble, significantly reducing maintenance time and labor costs. The use of plastic rollers contributes to reducing machine downtime, thereby improving operating efficiency and optimizing investment costs of the enterprise. Accessories that come with rollers are manufactured synchronously on modern production lines, ensuring quality and lifespan corresponding to the plastic core, helping the product to last throughout its life cycle.
Another highlight of the high molecular plastic roller is its strong chemical resistance, corrosion resistance and effective anti-adhesion. The UHMWPE material that makes up the roller can withstand acids, alkalis, salts and organic solvents. The roller operates stably in the temperature range from -260°C to +80°C and has a flash point of up to 154°C, suitable for working environments with large temperature fluctuations or strict technical requirements on fire safety. The product is also non-toxic, can come into contact with food, easy to clean and reusable - in line with the green production trend.
In product quality control, the company has developed its own set of basic standards TCCS-1-2025-CKHG to comprehensively control everything from input materials to finished products. All metals used in rollers are tested for composition using a spectrum analyzer. Finished products must undergo a series of rigorous tests such as water tightness, operational stability, dust resistance, noise and resistance. After meeting the standards, each roller is cleaned, coated with a layer of preservative oil and packaged according to the correct process to ensure safety during storage and transportation.
Boldly investing in modern production lines and mastering the technology of producing high-molecular plastic rollers has helped Hon Gai Mechanical become a pioneer in Vietnam in this field. The success of the product not only contributes to improving productivity and quality for units in the coal and mining industries, but also clearly demonstrates the capacity for innovation, creativity and long-term development strategy of a mechanical enterprise with a traditional brand.
Boldly investing in new technology to become the first unit in Vietnam to master the production line of high molecular plastic rollers helps Hon Gai Mechanical gradually affirm its role as a leading innovation in the supporting industrial mechanical industry. Thereby, contributing to improving production and business efficiency, contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam's industry.
