Tu Du Hospital's second facility in Can Gio will officially open on November 10.

On the morning of November 1, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health Tang Chi Thuong said that the joint general hospital model is ready to go into operation in Can Gio on November 10.

This is a public general hospital using the existing infrastructure of the Can Gio District Medical Center (old), managed by Tu Du Hospital (operating under the model of facility 2), closely linked with many leading general and specialized hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City to become a general hospital.

Can Gio is a coastal area, where people still have difficulty accessing high-quality medical services. At the same time, Can Gio is also in the process of developing marine economy , tourism, and seaports.

"The early construction of a high-quality general hospital here is not only a medical investment to ensure social security, but also has the meaning of creating a health care infrastructure to serve socio-economic development, attracting experts and residents," said Mr. Thuong.

Previously, on May 8, 2024, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City issued Decision No. 1564 on promulgating the Project "Strengthening, enhancing capacity and developing healthcare in Can Gio district to 2030, with a vision to 2045".

According to the project, a public hospital in the city will be selected as the second facility operating under the general hospital model with a scale of about 300 beds, using the existing infrastructure of the Can Gio Regional Medical Center (formerly Can Gio District Hospital, due to ineffective operation, it was merged into the District Medical Center).

One year after the project was approved, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health selected Tu Du Hospital as a group 1 autonomous hospital, responsible for developing a plan to implement the model of a joint general hospital, and responsible for operating and managing the hospital.

Other general and specialized hospitals including: City Children's Hospital, Le Van Thinh Hospital, Eye Hospital, Hospital of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, Rehabilitation and Occupational Diseases Hospital, and Dermatology will dispatch professional staff to be in charge of clinical departments and send specialist doctors to work at Tu Du Hospital, branch 2.

In addition to its main task of examining and treating people in Can Gio and neighboring areas, Tu Du Hospital, Branch 2, is also assigned to support remote consultation and consultation with commune health stations in the area; participate in preventive medicine programs, primary health care, and develop the grassroots health network in the area.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health acknowledges and highly appreciates the determination and efforts to take on the important responsibilities assigned to it by Tu Du Hospital and its affiliated hospitals. All of them thoroughly understand and realize that the implementation of the second facility of Tu Du Hospital in Can Gio is a strategic decision in implementing Resolution No. 72 of the Politburo .

In parallel with serving the people, the hospital will meet the health care needs of workers, experts and tourists when the Can Gio international transit port project and the marine eco-tourism urban area are implemented.
