As part of the Party Tour through 4 cities, Hanoi is the second stop of Tung (Nguyen Bao Tung) with two performances on October 10 and 11.
With 700 audiences for each performance, almost filling the Concert Hall of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, Tung's music night was rustic, quiet and filled with contemplations, like the whispers of young people about love and life.
Tung contemplates on love
If at the Lantern Party on October 4 in Da Lat, Tung's music was played in a cozy atmosphere amidst the mountainous nature, evoking the image of a migratory bird's nest before taking off, then in Hanoi, the space of the Concert Hall became solemn and profound for everyday stories.
There, Tung leads listeners through all the stages of love, each stage is a contemplation. Both happiness and brokenness are reasons to learn how to grow up.

Those are times when we wish for a love where we can see each other completely every moment: "We are close to each other but are we together?" , then awkwardly wonder " We eat rice balls but why are we looking at each other for a hundred years/ Why do you keep putting your hands on your heads instead of holding hands?"
That is sometimes an honest yet naive question, measuring the chance of love like a mathematical probability and then wondering: "What is the percentage that I will make you smile?"
There are also broken pieces that everyone will have to face at some point in their youth, when "we are not together as promised" , when "we lose everything when we dare to say those vows" and then feel like "the end of the world for the first time".
In Tung's musical world , contemplations about love are constantly pursued like migratory birds flying without rest.
Migratory birds do not seek anything, do not seek happiness. Just with each flap of its wings, it knows it is still alive, still passionate. Passionate like every time Tung “after everything, still loves like the first time” , because people always need to love, be loved, live, truly live, fully.

With a natural, narrative voice, singing in the space of the Concert Hall, Tung was very smart when dividing the stage into two halves: one half was a symphony orchestra with the sounds of the violin and cello, sometimes mournful, sometimes shrill, the other half was a strong, intense electric guitar and drums.
The sounds blend together like a very human complexity and contradiction, but then harmonize together in a logical way.

In the end, Tung still 'put his heart on the table'
At the end of the concert, Tung had two questions for the audience. One, how did we get here? Two, having achieved what we wanted, why do we keep going?
Like a migratory bird that never stops, perhaps, Tung always "puts his heart on the table", ready for adventures, for the things that will come along the way.
Therefore, Tung's music is not only about love. Or, through love, Tung learns to understand people, about life, and about himself.
During the two concerts, Tung sang old songs and new songs. It was easy to see the maturity in them, from an architecture student who wrote his first songs in his rented room, to Tung - a free artist who is always anxious in every word.
Throughout his journey of maturity, Tung's music is close to the colors of Buddhism, of forgiveness, tolerance, of the desire to live and love fully in every moment.

Tung shared: "Each audience member becomes a migratory bird, carrying lessons about love, freedom, and connection, ready to fly to new horizons" - Photo: MAI THUONG

The special guest in the two music nights was Trang, the audience joked that this was the only artist not on the poster but in Tung's heart - Photo: MAI THUONG
A young man in his twenties, standing on the edge of the world, with shaggy hair but clear eyes, can see: "There are ways to love in life/ We learn not to expect", see "flowers pierced through hatred", and "I see forgiveness".
Tung's audience, those who have been with Tung for 10 years, from the demo songs on soundcloud, they have grown up with Tung in that "forgiveness". Some people burst into tears when listening to Tung sing, because they had the opportunity to look back at the days when they overcame brokenness, overcame pain and even overcame their own ego.
Perhaps that's why Tung's music night had a dreamy healing energy, emanating from the music and from the people who, with Tung's music, "carried the pain, we will forgive".
And in the end, we'll still "put our hearts on the table," right?
