Lesson 1: Hanoi's "picture" is flourishing and worthy

Hanoi in October, the weather is entering Autumn. From Noi Bai International Airport, the car sped straight to the city center. Crossing Nhat Tan Bridge, the image that appeared before our eyes was high-rise buildings stretching along the windy Red River, the wide and long Vo Chi Cong street, vehicles moving in an orderly and orderly manner... Hanoi is changing every day, putting on a "new coat" - modern, civilized but still retaining its traditional identity and elegant beauty.

Synchronous infrastructure development

In the flow of history, Hanoi in each period has left its mark on space and time, carving meaningful events that create the unique shape of the Capital - the heart of the whole country. More than 70 years have passed, bomb and bullet marks are imprinted on every battlefield in many streets and wards... in the fierce battles of the past like wounds on the skin. This autumn morning, Hanoi's streets are filled with flags, banners, and symbols of victory to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2025) in the joyful atmosphere of the people of Hanoi and the whole country.

Walking on the newly renovated Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square (Hoan Kiem ward), Ms. Nguyen Thu Huyen (Korean nationality) excitedly shared: "After many years living abroad, returning to Hanoi, I can really feel the changes in the capital. Modern urban areas interspersed with moss-covered tiled roofs of the old town, green lakes and parks covered with trees, along with a civilized and dynamic pace of life. From the center of Hoan Kiem to the suburban areas that are growing strongly, the capital not only preserves the thousand-year-old cultural soul but also puts on a new, beautiful coat, affirming its position as a modern, integrated and livable city."

According to Ms. Huyen, synchronous infrastructure development has brought about great changes to the lives of the people in the capital. New urban areas are planned synchronously, modernly, fully integrated with facilities from schools, hospitals, shopping malls to entertainment areas such as Vinhomes Smart City, Ecopark, Times City, Starlake... have become models of satellite cities, helping to reduce population pressure in the inner city and bring a more comfortable and modern life to the people. In particular, the appearance of these urban areas not only improves the quality of life of the people but also contributes to changing the urban appearance, towards a greener, cleaner, more beautiful and civilized Hanoi.

It is not difficult to see that, amidst the hustle and bustle of a city over a thousand years old, Hanoi today appears with a new, more spacious and beautiful appearance. Mr. Nguyen Van An, former Secretary of the Party Committee of Dong Ngac Ward (Hanoi City) expressed that a few years ago, the Xuan Dinh and Dong Ngac areas... in many places were still empty lots and fields, but now they are replaced by a series of real estate projects, offices, commercial centers, high-rise apartment buildings, becoming development centers. In particular, parks, lakes, and urban green areas are being invested in and upgraded, bringing a fresh look. People have more places to exercise, relax and enjoy the fresh air.

In fact, over the past years in Hanoi, the belt roads, radial axes, river bridges, etc., when put into use, have led to the emergence of a series of new urban areas, commercial centers, and industrial parks, changing the face of the land. Urban planning experts believe that in modern urban development planning, transport infrastructure is always considered the "blood vessel" that nourishes the operation and expansion of living space. Investing in a synchronous transport system not only aims to solve immediate travel needs but also paves the way for new urban spaces to form, creating momentum for socio -economic growth.

The "blood vessels" of urban space development

Engineer Vu Hai Hau, Thang Long Foundation Construction Joint Stock Company, said that 10 years ago, Hanoi was still a large construction site full of key transport projects. Roads were blocked, bridges were under construction, metro stations were taking shape... But now, those projects have been completed and put into operation, bringing about clear results. The Cat Linh - Ha Dong and Nhon - Cau Giay urban railways have become symbols of modern public transport. Elevated trains not only help reduce congestion but also bring a new and convenient travel experience to people.

Along with that, a vital traffic corridor has been opened, connecting the Southwest area with the city center. A series of belt roads such as: Ring Road 2 above ground, Ring Road 3 has been formed and is creating a complete traffic network, reducing pressure on inner-city roads. Ring Road 4 - Capital Region is being urgently constructed, when completed, it will become a driving force for socio-economic development for the entire region, connecting Hanoi with neighboring provinces such as Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, opening up an economic corridor with new investment, trade and tourism opportunities.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, a series of key projects were started and inaugurated, creating momentum and a new look for the Capital. Typical examples include: Inauguration of Yen Xa Wastewater Treatment Plant; commencement of key bridges (Van Phuc Bridge, Ngoc Hoi Bridge); implementation of site clearance for national projects (North-South high-speed railway, Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway); commencement of new driving force projects such as Hanoi High-Tech Biotechnology Park and smart city...

Right on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day on October 10, the city continued to start and inaugurate other important projects such as: Thuong Cat Bridge; urban railway line No. 2 (Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao), line No. 5 (Van Cao - Hoa Lac section); Le Hong Phong Cadre Training School; Hanoi Kidney Hospital Facility 2; Co Linh intersection underpass and especially the iconic project - Tran Hung Dao Bridge. These are not just simple roads and bridges but are "leverages" to promote socio-economic development, expand urban space and improve people's quality of life.

If transport infrastructure is the "blood vessel" that promotes socio-economic development, expands space and connects regions, then education is the "life force" that nurtures intelligence and talent for the capital. Along with modern transport works, Hanoi in the 2020-2025 term has also made a strong mark in building a knowledge foundation - a decisive factor in the position and sustainability of the future of the capital.
