* Pig price in the Northern region
A survey in the Northern region on the morning of December 12 recorded an increase in live hog prices in Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Yen Bai, Ha Nam and Ninh Binh. Currently, the price of live hog in the Northern market fluctuates from 63,000 - 65,000 VND/kg.
Hanoi and Vinh Phuc are the next two localities with live pig prices reaching 65,000 VND/kg, the same price as Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, Bac Giang and Thai Binh. This is also the highest level in the country.
In the Central Highlands region
The Central Highlands region increased one price in Khanh Hoa, reaching 62,000 VND/kg, the same price as the provinces: Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri and Quang Nam .
Thus, the level of 61,000 VND/kg has disappeared from the market. Traders in the Central region are purchasing live pigs at the range of 62,000 - 64,000 VND/kg, with the level of 64,000 VND/kg appearing in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Binh Thuan and Lam Dong.
In the Southern region
The Southern region unexpectedly kept prices unchanged this morning. Currently, live pigs in this region are priced between 62,000 - 64,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, Hau Giang, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh and Bac Lieu are the provinces that purchase live pigs at 62,000 VND/kg, the lowest in the region.
* In the context of the livestock farming season serving the Tet market, many northern provinces were damaged by storms and floods, the complicated disease situation caused difficulties for the livestock industry, so the price of live pigs is always high. Currently, the price of live pigs in the province is from 62-64 thousand VND/kg, which is the price at which farmers make a profit and feel secure in investing in herd restoration. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the total pig herd in the country is currently over 30 million, ranking 6th among the countries with the highest pork production in the world.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry Tong Xuan Chinh, with the current total pig herd and population, the domestic livestock industry can fully ensure pork supply for year-end consumption needs, especially for the 2025 Lunar New Year.
Vice President of Dong Nai Livestock Association Nguyen Kim Doan commented that the total livestock herd in the province is currently lower than the same period last year because the province is relocating thousands of livestock farms out of residential areas and not in accordance with planning. On the other hand, the impact of African swine fever has caused many livestock farms, especially small-scale farms, to suffer losses and stop raising livestock. However, large livestock corporations and enterprises are still growing well. In addition, with this situation, many enterprises will increase pork imports. In addition, the still difficult economy will affect the purchasing power of the market. Therefore, the pork consumer market at the end of the year, even during the peak of the Lunar New Year 2025, is unlikely to experience price fever and shortages.
