Surprising numbers of customers registering to buy SJC gold bars online

On June 17, the State Bank announced the direct selling price of gold bars to 4 state-owned commercial banks and SJC Company at 75.98 million VND/tael. The selling price of commercial banks and SJC Company to customers is 76.98 million VND/tael, while the buying price listed by SJC Company is 74.98 million VND/tael.

Today, along with Vietcombank, Agribank and BIDV are the next banks to launch the sale of SJC gold bars through online registration for customers.

According to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, on the first day of implementation, some customers said they registered to buy gold online, but the systems of both banks announced that "we have received enough customers registering to buy SJC gold bars for today".

We also tried to access the banking system that has implemented online gold purchase registration and registered but were unsuccessful.

Agribank representative said that in just the first 15 minutes since the system was opened for customer registration (from 9am), there were thousands of customer visits. Some customers even successfully registered for gold purchase transactions in less than 1 minute. According to preliminary statistics from the bank, at peak times of the day, the system recorded more than 50,000 simultaneous logins of customers registering to buy SJC gold bars.

"The system operated stably on the first day, without any overload. However, due to the high demand from customers nationwide, many customers have not been able to buy SJC gold bars," explained an Agribank representative.

Besides, there are also dozens of customers (more than 20 customers) who have successfully placed orders to buy on the system, have been notified by Agribank of the time and place to pay and receive gold but have not come to receive it. The reason may be that the customer canceled the transaction on the system themselves; the customer refused to buy gold...

Agribank statistics show that on the first day, at the same time, there were tens of thousands of customers registering to buy gold online.

Responding to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of Vietcombank said that every day there are tens of thousands of customers registering to buy gold through online channels. However, the amount of gold Vietcombank supplies to customers is equivalent to the amount served at the counter in the recent past. The amount of gold sold is consistent with the service capacity at the point of sale and the amount of gold Vietcombank buys from the State Bank.

"Compared to before, the online SJC gold bar purchase registration utility has a faster procedure time, thus helping to improve service quality. Customers only need to go to the gold selling point according to the confirmed appointment to pay and receive the ordered amount of gold without having to queue or wait," said a Vietcombank representative.

Vietcombank said that there were also thousands of customers accessing the bank's website to register to buy gold online, but the demand for service at the transaction counter in a day was limited.

State-owned commercial banks said they will continue to implement the plan to sell gold through online registration to reduce the number of customers queuing directly at branches and transaction offices.

The State Bank affirmed that it will continue to implement the roadmap to narrow and control the gap between the domestic and world prices of SJC gold bars at an appropriate level. Currently, the price of SJC gold bars is about 5-6 million VND/tael higher than the world price.
