Verify the origin and quality of "beef and bones"

The incident in which parents of Kim Quan Primary School (Thach That Commune, Hanoi ) discovered food with signs of suspected spoilage during a "surprise" inspection of the food supply and processing at the kitchen of the unit providing meals for boarding students caused a stir in public opinion. Accordingly, at the time of the inspection, the monitoring team discovered in the area containing raw materials about 5kg of chopped ribs and bones and 3kg of ground beef in an icebox near the processing area.

The parents described the food as having an unappetizing color and smell, and the bones showing signs of spoilage. In addition, the kitchen also contained a pot of unused cooking oil without a clear label.

On the afternoon of November 8, Ms. Khuat Thi Khuyen, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach That Commune, Hanoi, said: "The People's Committee of Thach That Commune has directed the relevant departments and the commune police to coordinate with the functional forces of Tay Phuong Commune to check the origin and take samples for testing of the above food at the food supply facility."

According to the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach That Commune, there are no test results yet. "The unit that provides ready-to-eat meals for the school is located in Tay Phuong Commune. We have been working with relevant authorities and units."

Responding to the origin of the above food, Ms. Khuat Thi Khuyen said: "The food supplier said that it was leftover so they left it in the company kitchen cupboard. The above food was not included in the food used to prepare for students. The menu for Kim Quan Primary School students on November 7 did not have any dishes using beef bones or meat."

Request to temporarily suspend meals at boarding schools

It is known that Hoa Viet Company is the unit selected by the school through the evaluation and inspection process of the local government, not a designated enterprise. Currently, the authorities are continuing to investigate and clarify the incident to ensure food safety and the rights of students, and at the same time review the entire process of providing meals at the school.

"Immediately after discovering the incident, we directed the Department of Culture and Society, the Commune Health Station, and the police to coordinate with the People's Committee of Tay Phuong Commune - where the meal provider is located. For now, we have requested a temporary suspension of boarding meals pending specific handling results. Currently, the school is negotiating with the parents' association to have a specific plan for students regarding boarding meals," Ms. Khuyen added.

In addition, explaining the amount of 'leftover' food, which is 5kg of chopped ribs and bones and 3kg of ground beef, Ms. Khuat Thi Khuyen said: "This unit does not only provide meals for students and schools. This unit also accepts events such as weddings, and families who order food, they accept all orders.
