Industry and Trade Newspaper Trade Union towards a term of innovation and development

The 5th Congress of the Industry and Trade Newspaper Trade Union took place in the context of the country's strong innovation, an occasion to summarize the 2023 - 2028 term and set out development directions for the 2025 - 2030 period.

Outstanding achievements in the 2023 - 2028 term

The 5th Congress of the Industry and Trade Newspaper Trade Union for the 2025 - 2030 term took place at a time when the country was fundamentally changing its organizational model in the new era. The Congress was also an important political activity for union members and workers of the Industry and Trade Newspaper, with the motto: Solidarity - Democracy - Discipline - Innovation - Development.

The 5th Congress of the Trade Union of the Industry and Trade Newspaper was held to summarize and evaluate trade union activities and movements associated with officials and workers for the 2023-2028 term, at the same time draw lessons, set goals, directions and tasks for the 2025-2030 term, and continue to build the Trade Union of the Industry and Trade Newspaper increasingly stronger.

During the period of 2023 - 2028, the activities of the Industry and Trade Newspaper's Trade Union always receive close and timely attention and direction from the Ministry of Industry and Trade's Trade Union; the Party Committee, the editorial board's leadership; the regular coordination of mass organizations, especially the solidarity of the collective Leadership, officers and employees, helping the Trade Union operate in a disciplined, quality and effective manner.

During the term, the activities of the Industry and Trade Newspaper have made great strides in terms of organizational structure, content and economy . The apparatus and organizational structure of the Industry and Trade Newspaper have been improved according to the Project to renovate the Industry and Trade Newspaper for the period 2023 - 2025 and the new regulations on functions and tasks to meet the model of a converged, multimedia editorial office; propaganda work is guaranteed with rich and diverse content, without political errors.

The Electronic Industry and Trade Newspaper achieved a record growth in viewership and international ranking with 45 million views/month and ranked 54th among the top electronic newspapers and news websites in Vietnam, up more than 600 places; won 16 press awards of all kinds; YouTube channel received a silver button, Facebook received a blue tick with millions of followers.

The Industry and Trade Newspaper has strongly transformed digitally, and was ranked 18th out of the first 67 central press agencies assessed by the Ministry of Information and Communications (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) to have completed the digital transformation maturity standards, with a good ranking.

Regarding the press economy, despite being affected by the market and general economic fluctuations, the Industry and Trade Newspaper still maintains stable revenue, ensuring income for workers. The average income of union members has increased compared to previous periods. All 100% of civil servants, public employees, and workers are fully entitled to insurance, periodic health check-ups, and provision of personal belongings and working equipment.

Through personnel changes, the Union Executive Committee has always maintained solidarity, initiative and flexibility in all activities; becoming a reliable bridge between workers and leaders, contributing to strengthening trust and creating motivation for all cadres, reporters and editors to successfully complete political tasks.

To date, the Industry and Trade Newspaper Union has 106 members, of which women account for nearly 65%. Each member demonstrates a sense of responsibility, strives to improve their expertise, maintains professional ethics and has absolute trust in the leadership of the Party and superiors.

Comprehensive care for workers' lives

During the 2023 - 2028 term, the Trade Union of the Industry and Trade Newspaper will closely coordinate with the editorial board to organize annual conferences for civil servants and employees to ensure democracy and transparency. The Trade Union will proactively grasp the thoughts and aspirations of union members, propose solutions to overcome difficulties, stabilize jobs and improve welfare.

The Executive Committee of the Union maintains regular quarterly meetings to promptly direct new tasks and handle union members' suggestions. The Union also participates in giving opinions on documents related to recruitment, emulation and rewards, policies and regimes... to ensure that each cadre, reporter and editor is assigned work appropriate to their expertise and capacity.

The union coordinates well with professionals in managing welfare funds, organizing cultural and artistic activities, sports, tourism, vacations, visiting sick people, maternity leave, and weddings; creating a united, humane and cohesive environment.

The Industry and Trade Newspaper is the mouthpiece of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, so the propaganda task is always seriously and properly coordinated by the Trade Union. The Trade Union closely follows the direction of the Newspaper's Party Committee, fully disseminates resolutions and directives from superiors to all cadres, party members and union members.

Many emulation movements such as "Good worker, Creative worker", "Good at public work, good at housework" are deployed in conjunction with professional tasks, especially in improving content quality, developing journalism economy and policy communication.

In addition, the Industry and Trade Newspaper has also effectively propagated major issues of the country and the Industry and Trade sector; carried out articles refuting erroneous viewpoints; and spread the Party and Government's message about belief, development aspirations and national position in the new era.

Many multimedia products have reached millions of views on digital platforms; become one of the key units organizing many competitions such as: Political competition to protect the Party's ideological foundation, Competition to learn about the tradition of the Industry and Trade sector, Electricity saving competition... contributing to enhancing the image and reputation of the editorial office.

Thanks to promoting the emulation and propaganda movement, in the period of 2023 - 2025, Cong Thuong Newspaper was honored to receive over 30 press awards and certificates of merit of various types.

In the emulation movement to develop the press economy, the union has coordinated with the government to encourage workers to actively participate in economic development on occasions such as: Industry and Trade Sector Tradition May 14, Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day June 21...; 80th anniversary of Industry and Trade Newspaper Tradition.

In 2023, 2024, and 10 months of 2025, the total revenue of the Newspaper will remain stable. It will contribute nearly ten billion VND to the budget each year. The average income of employees will reach over 20 million VND/person/month. In addition, the Trade Union of the Industry and Trade Newspaper will actively participate in charitable and humanitarian activities and support social funds.

During the past half term, the Trade Union of the Industry and Trade Newspaper has made efforts to closely follow the resolutions and instructions of superiors and the tasks of the industry. Work programs have been implemented in accordance with actual conditions, focusing on union members and workers. Emulation movements, professional activities, culture and sports have been maintained effectively, attracting a large number of union members to participate.

The work of caring for workers' lives and policies has been implemented fully and promptly, creating trust for workers. The trade union has also promoted democratic regulations, maintained a cooperative relationship with the government and organizations, contributing to the completion of the goals of the 4th Congress.

However, trade union activities still have some limitations. The innovation of content and methods of operation has not met new requirements; the work of inspecting and urging trade union groups is not regular. The Executive Committee mainly holds part-time positions, the large workload limits the time for trade union activities.

Along with that, the implementation of resolutions and the enforcement of the Trade Union Charter are not uniform. The trade union groups are scattered in many localities, making it difficult to grasp the thoughts and aspirations of union members, affecting the timely proposal and resolution of the legitimate needs of workers.

Industry and Trade Newspaper Union innovates activities

Based on the tasks of the Industry and Trade Newspaper and the practical situation, the congress set the goal of building a strong trade union organization, innovating the content and methods of operation, and better caring for the interests of cadres, civil servants and workers.

The general goal is to promote the representative role, improve the quality of union activities and build a team of united and responsible union members. Specific goals include 100% of union groups completing their tasks well; training skills for all union officials; introducing 4-5 outstanding union members/year to the Party; ensuring 100% of union members are fully informed of policies and guidelines; maintaining effective monitoring and inspection activities.

Regarding the direction of tasks, the union continues to strengthen the organization, perfect the apparatus for the new term, innovate the method of operation to attract union members; promote the emulation movement associated with the political tasks of the newspaper; strengthen inspection and supervision to protect the legitimate rights and interests of workers. The union coordinates with the government to review regulations, organize workers' conferences, regular health check-ups, ensure a civilized and effective working environment; promote union members to participate in social activities and improve professional capacity and skills.

Emulation movements are implemented in a practical manner, focusing on setting examples, replicating advanced models and linking them with studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle. The union also maintains cultural and sports activities and timely rewards.

Women's work focuses on improving the capacity of female union members, promoting the spirit of "Good at public work, good at home work"; taking care of children of officials, organizing activities on the occasion of June 1, Mid-Autumn Festival and programs to honor families with meritorious services. The Inspection Committee strengthens supervision of compliance with the charter, use of union finances and handling complaints and denunciations; financial work implements revenue and expenditure in accordance with regulations, economically and effectively.

Regarding solutions, the Executive Committee will specify tasks for each stage; innovate direction; strengthen discipline and democracy; improve the quality of propaganda and application of information technology; focus on professional training and closely coordinate with unit leaders.

The Congress of the Trade Union of the Industry and Trade Newspaper believes that the union members will unite and complete the work program for the 2025 - 2030 term, contributing to the common development of the Industry and Trade Newspaper, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and firmly protecting the rights of workers.
