According to a VNA reporter in Singapore, storm No. 3 (storm Yagi ) has caused terrible damage to people and property for millions of people in the northern provinces of Vietnam.

In this urgent situation, many acts of solidarity, cooperation, encouragement and sharing for the victims of storm No. 3 in Vietnam have been recorded both inside and outside Singapore, from agencies, organizations, businesses to communities and families with relatives in Vietnam who suffered losses in the storm and floods.

All are aimed at the message "Try to suppress the pain to overcome the consequences of the flood, to continue to live well."

Promoting the tradition of solidarity, “mutual love and support,” “the whole leaves cover the torn leaves,” responding to the call of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to mobilize support for compatriots to overcome the damage caused by storm No. 3, the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore launched a fundraising campaign within the diplomatic mission and neighboring representative agencies, within the Vietnamese community in Singapore, and spreading the spirit of “sharing food and clothes.”

At the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival of the Vietnamese community in Singapore on the evening of September 15, Ambassador Mai Phuoc Dung emphasized that this year's Mid-Autumn Festival was not complete, because children in areas affected by storm No. 3 did not have a Mid-Autumn Festival.

The Ambassador called on the community to respond to the call of the Vietnam Fatherland Front , in one way or another, to join hands to support compatriots in the country to overcome the consequences of the storm and flood, so that students in affected areas can soon resume going to school.

Sharing timely information calling for support for compatriots to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3, Ms. Ta Thuy Lien, Head of the Liaison Committee of the Vietnamese Community in Singapore, said: “Responding to the call of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Vietnamese community in Singapore is very interested and unanimous, quickly spreading information and mobilizing support for compatriots affected by storm No. 3. Actively sharing complete and accurate information, including information about the relief account of the Central Relief Mobilization Committee, has helped people here easily participate in contributing directly to the country.”

Meanwhile, according to the Singapore Embassy in Vietnam, the Singapore Red Cross Society (SRC) has announced a contribution of S$50,000 (VND950 million) to support the current humanitarian efforts of the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VNRC).

As planned, a response team from SRC is deployed to Vietnam to support relief operations. Singaporean businesses in Vietnam, under the name "SG Community Cares," have also jointly pledged VND1.5 billion to support relief and recovery efforts.

Wilmar, a Singaporean company with a long-standing presence in Vietnam, is launching an initiative that aims to raise US$400,000 (VND10 billion) to support storm victims and first responders in severely affected areas, especially Quang Ninh province, with necessities and cash.

The Temasek Foundation in Singapore also announced that it has contacted to support in Lao Cai and Hai Phong, and coordinated to support the need for fresh water in Thai Nguyen.

After the storm, a series of heavy rains caused serious landslides and floods that submerged thousands of houses, crops, livestock and people.

Among the victims was the family of Ms. Pham Thi Hoa, in group 8, Quang Vinh ward, Thai Nguyen city.

Ms. Hoa married a Singaporean, has two children and is living and working in this country.

Ms. Hoa said: “I am from Thai Nguyen. A few days ago, a flood occurred in my hometown, causing my family to lose two relatives, including my younger brother, leaving behind two young children. Tomorrow is the day of her funeral, but I cannot return."

She shared that she sent a little contribution back to her hometown to help those who lost or were trapped in the flood... Her house was flooded 2-3m deep, up to the 2nd and 3rd floors, causing many people to go missing.

She hopes that after the flood, those who escaped, despite many losses, will try to suppress their grief to overcome the consequences of the flood and live well./.
