On the morning of June 29, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Hanoi People's Committee jointly organized the 2023 Energy and Environmental Technology Forum.
Speaking at the Forum, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Van Tung said: Developing advanced energy technology associated with environmental protection is an inevitable trend in the country's socio-economic development and towards building a "green" and modern economy.
The development of environmentally friendly energy sources, especially renewable energy sources, in parallel with fossil energy sources is becoming increasingly important in the energy source structure, thereby contributing to gradually solving the problem of Vietnam's increasing energy demand; helping to diversify energy sources, disperse risks, enhance and ensure national energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat global climate change.
In recent times, the Party and the State have issued many policies and guidelines to encourage the development of energy and environment in Vietnam. In 2020, the Ministry of Science and Technology advised and submitted to the Prime Minister Decision No. 2117/QD-TTg on the List of priority technologies for research, development and application to proactively participate in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, in which 1 of the 4 priority areas for research, development and application of technology is "Energy and Environment".
Accordingly, the Ministry of Science and Technology shall coordinate with ministries, ministerial-level agencies, People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities and relevant organizations and individuals based on this Decision and other relevant legal provisions to orient and prioritize resource allocation for research, development and application of energy and environmental technology.
The Deputy Minister also said that Resolution No. 29-NQ/TW dated November 17, 2022 of the 13th Party Central Committee on "Continuing to promote industrialization and modernization of the country to 2030, with a vision to 2045" has identified priority resources and has strong enough incentive mechanisms and policies to develop a number of fundamental industries, including the energy industry; encouraging domestic corporations and enterprises to cooperate and enter into joint ventures with foreign enterprises to produce clean and renewable energy equipment, battery storage systems, energy-saving technologies and products.
“In order to disseminate and implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on the application, transfer and development of technology in the energy and environment sector, the Forum is an opportunity for managers, experts, businesses, investors and scientists to discuss the achievements in implementing the above policies and guidelines; identify difficulties and challenges in developing the energy and environment sector; and at the same time, seek business opportunities and expand investment cooperation,” said the Deputy Minister.
The Forum consists of 2 sessions: Presentation Session and Discussion Session. At the Presentation Session, representatives of domestic and foreign enterprises presented on contents related to New Technology Trends and recommendations on research, transfer and mastery of Energy and Environment technology.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thang, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, for Hanoi, energy transition is a top priority because it is primarily related to power supply for the capital. Therefore, to ensure power supply, a series of criteria and goals must be set.
At the same time, Hanoi is also implementing waste-to-energy projects such as the Soc Son waste-to-energy project, the Seraphin waste project, and is currently planning to have two more waste-to-energy plants in the south of the city, with the goal of processing nearly 8,000 tons of waste per day and night for the whole of Hanoi.
In addition, Hanoi City has implemented a series of events and programs related to businesses and people such as the program on efficient energy use, the program on cleaner energy use, the program on limiting the use of plastic bags in commerce and consumption, etc.
At the Seminar, delegates and a number of businesses exchanged and discussed the topics of science and technology policies for research, transfer, application and development of energy and environmental technology; policies for green energy development, energy conversion; investment orientation and energy-environment development of Hanoi City…/.
