Vietnamese workers and their mission in the new era of development

Special Mission

Every year, May is a month of special significance for every cadre, union member and worker. International Labor Day (May 1), the festival of the working class and working people around the world , affirms the historical mission, position and role of the working class in the struggle for peace, national independence and social progress.

At the launching ceremony of Workers' Month and Action Month on occupational safety and hygiene in 2025, Comrade Nguyen Hoa Binh, Politburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister of the Government emphasized: In the current context, the strong development of technology, especially the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and the global digitalization trend is both an opportunity and a great challenge, requiring Vietnamese workers to constantly innovate, create, develop digital skills and flexibly adapt to new technologies, improve labor productivity, and maintain a pioneering role in the country's socio-economic development. Therefore, each enterprise must truly consider employees as the most valuable asset. Each grassroots trade union must truly be a trustworthy "companion", protecting the legitimate rights and interests of union members. The Deputy Prime Minister also suggested that each employee should proactively learn, practice skills, strengthen discipline, constantly innovate, be creative, and love work as they love their own lives.

Developing GCCN, promoting vocational training, and supporting workers to improve their skills is a consistent policy of our Party and State with many specific mechanisms, policies, and solutions; thereby promoting the transformation of economic and labor structures, while creating opportunities and favorable conditions for workers to participate in new industries, especially those related to digital technology and artificial intelligence. All levels, sectors, and localities are striving to achieve the set strategic goal of ensuring that all workers have the opportunity to develop and are fully equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to keep up with the development trends of the country.

Pioneer in innovation

According to comrade Nguyen Dinh Khang, member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor: In 2024, in the context of many difficulties, under the leadership of the Party, the administration of the State, the coordination of the Fatherland Front, the Central Steering Committee for the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Hygiene and trade union organizations at all levels have implemented many practical actions in response to the Workers' Month and the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Hygiene, contributing to improving working conditions, increasing income, and comprehensively caring for the material and spiritual life of workers and laborers. Many enterprises have paid attention to investing in modern machinery and technology for ensuring occupational safety and hygiene. Millions of workers have actively participated in emulation movements on occupational safety and hygiene, tens of thousands of initiatives and preventive solutions in the field of occupational safety and hygiene have been implemented, bringing about good effects and great influence. Tens of thousands of workers and their families in especially difficult circumstances, suffering from work-related accidents and occupational diseases, have been cared for, shared, supported, and given strength. Thousands of outstanding workers have been recognized, rewarded, and honored from the central to the grassroots levels.

For Ms. Ninh Thi Loan, a worker at Hanoi Urban Environment Company Limited (Urenco), Workers' Month and the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Hygiene have great significance for direct workers. With the nature of hard, toxic work, prone to occupational accidents during the working process, every worker at Urenco is clearly aware that ensuring occupational safety and hygiene is the responsibility and obligation of both workers, employers and the whole society. This is also an opportunity for each worker to demonstrate the spirit of solidarity, creativity and dedication to work, together spreading the spirit of "Vietnamese workers pioneering into a new era of development", building the image of modern, dynamic and innovative workers, contributing to building the unit, enterprise and country increasingly rich, civilized and happy.

In 2025, Workers' Month with the theme "Vietnamese Workers Pioneering the New Era of Development" is an opportunity for us to honor the value of labor, arouse the creativity and responsibility of workers in the process of building a strong and prosperous Vietnam. This is a new point in Workers' Month 2025, demonstrating the role and responsibility of trade unions and workers to promote creativity and contribute to building the country in the spirit of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo dated December 22, 2024 on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation.

Adapting to the new era of development - the era of integration, digital transformation and the nation's aspirations to rise, Vietnamese workers need to make changes to affirm their role as a pillar force in socio-economic development. In the modern context, their role is not only to implement but also to be the driving force for innovation, creativity and sustainable development. Workers need to proactively improve their vocational skills, especially digital skills and the ability to adapt to new technologies. Continuously learn, innovate, actively participate in the "Digital Literacy Movement", master technology to become "pioneers" in the digital era and artificial intelligence.
