The Norwegian Chess Super Tournament is witnessing a series of unexpected developments. Especially the stumble in the last 2 days of chess player Magnus Carlsen.

After losing to 19-year-old "Chess King" Gukesh Dommaraju and slamming the table in frustration, Carlsen continued to surprise experts in his match with Wei Yi on the night of June 3.

In the nerve-wracking Armageddon match against the 26-year-old Chinese player, Magnus Carlsen only needed a draw to win the match. However, with the demeanor of the “Chess King”, Carlsen chose an uncompromising style of play, clearly showing his desire to win.

But this haste may have cost him dearly. Carlsen unexpectedly made a rookie mistake when he carelessly made a "knight gift" move to his opponent.

Of course, Wei Yi did not miss this "gift", taking full advantage of the advantage of having more pieces to win the final victory, leaving Carlsen only able to laugh bitterly.

Carlsen's mistake surprised experts. International Grandmaster Tania Sachdev commented: "It's been a long time since Carlsen lost his air force like that."

Grandmaster David Howell agreed, saying the 34-year-old was going through "tough days".

From slamming the table after losing to Gukesh to making an unnecessary mistake against Wei Yi, this streak of form is completely not the familiar image of an invincible Magnus Carlsen.

After June 4, Carlsen was in 2nd place on the rankings, 0.5 points behind American player Fabiano Caruana.

Meanwhile, "God of Lightning" Hikaru Nakamura had an excellent performance when he defeated Gukesh to equalize the score with this young "Chess King".

The situation became even more dramatic when there were only two rounds left in the tournament, and the gap between the leader (Caruana) and 4th place (Gukesh) was only 1 point.

The tournament will take a break today, before returning for the penultimate round from 10pm on Thursday (June 5) Vietnam time.
