Lan Dam hamlet, Quang Son commune, Dong Hy, has a spacious cultural house thanks to the mobilization of people and support from the State. |
Mr. Lieu Van Trong, Vice Chairman of Quang Son Commune People's Committee, Secretary of Lan Dam Hamlet Party Cell, informed: About 40 years ago, Mong people from the northern mountainous provinces, mainly Cao Bang and Lang Son, migrated to live and formed Lan Dam Hamlet. 100% of the families are Mong people, all are poor and near-poor households, life is still very difficult because of little cultivated land. Of the total 114 hectares of natural land, up to 80 hectares are rocky mountains. In recent times, the Party, State and local authorities have devoted many resources to support investment in infrastructure construction, improving the material and spiritual life of the people...
Specifically, in 2017, the Lan Dam Primary and Kindergarten was invested by the State to build 3 spacious classrooms, ensuring that 100% of school-age children could attend school. In 2019, 100% of the hamlet's main roads were concreted, making it easier for people to travel and trade; the hamlet invested in transformer stations and low-voltage power lines, providing national grid electricity to 100% of households.
By 2022, from the capital of the National Target Program 1719, the main road of the hamlet will be widened from 2m to 3.5m, making it convenient for cars to move easily. In addition, the centralized domestic water system will also be renovated, repaired, and upgraded to a capacity of 8m3 to help people use clean water.
The local government always cares, encourages and looks after the material and spiritual life of the people of Lan Dam. |
Along with infrastructure, to create livelihoods for people, in recent years, Quang Son commune has effectively implemented programs, capital sources, and support policies of the State to the people. Specifically: Short-term vocational training program, job introduction consultation, seed price support; disbursement of 1 billion VND for the afforestation loan program, economic development for poor and near-poor households of the Social Policy Bank; support of 227 million VND for the project of raising breeding cows with 10 participating households...
Ms. Hoang Thi Do, a villager, excitedly said: "I'm so happy. The family will try to take care of the mother cow so that she can give birth to a calf, and raise her well to escape poverty."
By the end of 2024, Lan Dam had 23 households, of which 2 had become well-off, the remaining 17 were poor and 4 were near-poor. Currently, the hamlet has 7 people working at companies and factories in the province. In addition, people have known how to take advantage of each plot of land to grow 4.5 hectares of corn/year, with an output of 19.3 tons/year; plant 6.5 hectares of forest and 2.2 hectares of fruit trees, mainly jackfruit and custard-apple; raise over 330 cattle and poultry...
Mong people in Lan Dam hamlet use every piece of land to grow corn, helping to increase their income. |
In 2024, for the first time, the hamlet built a new cultural house with an area of 132 square meters, with a total cost of 490 million VND, of which the people contributed 65 laborers, 86 million VND for construction costs and purchase of cultural house equipment, ending the situation of holding meetings at people's houses or classrooms for many years.
At the end of the year, 91.3% of households in the hamlet achieved the title of cultural family, and the hamlet was recognized as a cultural hamlet for 3 consecutive years (2022-2024). The hamlet has no malnourished children, and children under 6 years old are fully vaccinated according to community health programs. From 2023-2025, the hamlet has no cases of third child birth.
In 2025, implementing the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, 11 households in Lan Dam were supported with a total budget of 410 million VND to repair and rebuild houses. Mr. Duong Van Kien, a resident in the hamlet, emotionally said: Before, my family had 7 people living in a cramped temporary house. Luckily, the military unit supported 80 million VND to build a new house, I feel secure when I have a solid house for my family.
Leaving Lan Dam when the sun was gradually setting, but the words of Mr. Kien and Ms. Do gave us confidence that not only their family but also many other households in the village would have better and better lives. Because the results achieved by Lan Dam show that the Mong people here have changed not only in their thinking but also in their way of doing things.
