The accident caused the child to lose the lower third of his left leg. After receiving first aid and bandaging at the local hospital, the boy was transferred to the National Children's Hospital for further treatment. According to his family, after school, the boy crossed the street just as a container truck swerved to avoid motorbikes parked on both sides of the road in front of the school gate, running over his leg.

Upon examination, the child's left leg was complicatedly injured, with the left foot severed, a lot of blood loss, pale skin, and pale mucous membranes. The doctors consulted and decided to perform a blood transfusion and surgery that same night.

MSc. Dr. Nguyen Vu Hoang - Orthopedic Department, National Children's Hospital informed that the child's damaged part was too large to preserve the entire left leg. Doctors amputated the upper third of the leg, taking advantage of the remaining damaged part to create a stump, with the hope of preserving the knee joint and the longest remaining leg. When the wound is stable, the child with a prosthetic leg can move better.

After surgery, the patient's health is now stable.

Doctors said that every year the hospital receives many cases of children suffering serious physical and mental consequences due to traffic accidents.

The main causes of traffic accidents for children are mainly due to carelessness and lack of attention in child management and care. At the same time, the awareness of traffic safety laws of some parents and relatives is not high.

Many parents park their cars illegally when picking up and dropping off their children, obstructing traffic and blocking visibility, making it difficult for drivers to react in case of an unexpected incident.

Currently, many schools have not arranged a place to stop and pick up students, so parents have to park their cars on both sides of the school gate to wait for their children. Many schools are located along national and provincial highways, where thousands of vehicles travel every day, including many trucks and container trucks moving at high speeds, causing traffic accidents to always be present.

To ensure order and traffic safety in front of the school gate, doctors recommend that schools closely coordinate with local authorities and functional forces to arrange parking spaces for parents and allocate personnel to regularly direct traffic during school hours.

At the same time, parents also need to raise awareness, drive in the correct lane and at the prescribed speed in areas near schools, stop, park, and turn vehicles in the correct places.

Schools and families need to increase supervision, organize training classes, and instruct children in traffic safety skills to avoid unfortunate accidents.
