Mr. Imran Khan appeared in court on May 12.

Khan was arrested on May 9 in a courthouse and charged in a land-related case. His arrest sparked protests and violence across the country, leaving at least nine people dead and hundreds of police officers injured.

AFP reported that more than 4,000 people were arrested during the protests. Since losing his post in a no-confidence vote in parliament last year, Khan has maintained his influence in the public eye. The Supreme Court ruled on May 11 that the former prime minister's arrest was illegal.
