From October, people can activate their SIM cards through identity verification using the national electronic identification account VNeID.FPT mobile network is the first network operator in Vietnam to implement this process.

According to information from the network operator, the FPT Shop application will automatically link with the VNeID application to authenticate data and complete activation registration, helping subscribers to be authenticated after completing the steps.

Previously, the Government issued Resolution 163, regulating the types of documents used to register terrestrial mobile subscriber information and guiding the Telecommunications Law. According to the regulations, in addition to direct activation at transaction points, individuals registering for a SIM card can do so online through the network operator's application and authenticate with a CCCD card or VNeID identification account.

Currently, most carriers have deployed the SIM activation feature via the application, but it is still mainly based on the form of authentication by CCCD. FPT is the first carrier to support users to authenticate with VNeID accounts. VNeID accounts need to be verified at level 2 according to current regulations.

This process demonstrates efforts to promote digital transformation and standardize mobile subscribers, providing a safe, legally compliant and convenient experience. Specifically, users log in to the FPT Shop application, select “Activate SIM”, then choose to activate with an electronic identification account - VNeID to authenticate identification information.

By applying the identity authentication method via VNeID, users can complete the entire registration and SIM activation process online, without having to go directly to the store or bring a paper ID card, saving time and simplifying procedures. At the same time, this method also limits the situation of document forgery, because personal information has been identified and authenticated by the State management agency.

Currently, the VNeID application has allowed online authentication of many services in Vietnam such as health records, banks, airlines, digital signatures, and e-wallets. In the near future, the Ministry of Public Security plans to integrate and update nearly 200 documents issued to individuals into VNeID, including red books, university degrees, and passports.

The implementation of online SIM activation using VNeID marks a step forward in the digital transformation of the telecommunications industry, bringing a more convenient and transparent experience to users. FPT representative said that this process also contributes to standardizing mobile subscribers and preventing the situation of junk SIMs in the market.
