On June 18, Google and the National Innovation Center (NIC) and the Ministry of Finance held a ceremony to announce the 2025 activities of the Vietnam AI Future Initiative.
Attending the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung, Deputy Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Committee, leaders of ministries, departments, branches and representatives of Google.
5 directions for Google's cooperation and development activities in Vietnam
Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung affirmed that science , technology, innovation and digital transformation are the shortest path and vital factors for Vietnam to realize its aspiration for rapid, sustainable, inclusive and self-reliant development to successfully achieve the country's two 100-year goals.
The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the results achieved from the cooperation between Google and the National Innovation Center in the field of AI, contributing to promoting the innovation and startup ecosystem in Vietnam in strategic technology fields.
This is also a practical action to concretize the policy and orientation of prioritizing research, training, incubation and application of AI in Resolution No. 57 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of Science and Technology, Innovation and National Digital Transformation.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung provided more information about the Party and Government's policies and guidelines related to promoting and developing AI in Vietnam, such as technology infrastructure, data, ecosystem building, and human resource training.
AI plays a key role in creating the future of industries and fields and tops the group of 11 strategic technologies just issued.
The Deputy Prime Minister outlined five future directions for Google’s cooperation and development activities in Vietnam. Specifically, Google is required to actively invest in AI training, incubation, and R&D centers in Vietnam. “This is the right time for Google to play a larger role in developing AI in Vietnam,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
The remaining four orientations include: cooperation in building high-quality AI human resources for Vietnam; building a program to popularize AI for the business community, supporting businesses in applying AI to improve operational efficiency and increase competitiveness; developing an AI innovation ecosystem to create conditions for AI ideas to grow and develop; consulting for Vietnam to perfect the AI legal framework, ensuring safe and responsible AI development.
More than 60,000 scholarships, 11,000 courses from 2022
Building Vietnam's AI Future is an initiative of Google in collaboration with the National Innovation Center. Since 2022, 60,000 scholarships and 11,000 courses have been awarded to 150 organizations and individuals through the Digital Talent Development program.
More than 500 startups participate in activities such as Startup Academy, Google for Startups Accelerator and Google Startup Masterclass.
According to Deputy Minister of Finance Tran Quoc Phuong, the program has become a powerful launching pad for the young generation of Vietnam to unlock the future, empowering technology businesses to turn ideas into reality.
Mr. Marc Woo - Managing Director of Google Vietnam, expressed his belief in Vietnam's potential in the AI era thanks to Vietnam's strong entrepreneurial spirit and passion and ambition for AI applications.
The number of Vietnamese AI startups has increased more than fourfold in three years, to 280. More than 70% of Vietnamese Internet users are using AI at work.
AI is forecast to contribute VND1.89 trillion to Vietnam's economy by 2030, equivalent to nearly 12% of GDP. With such benefits, Google and NIC continue to provide in-depth training opportunities and accelerate development, helping domestic startups expand their scale - contributing to making Vietnam a leading AI hub in the region.
This year, Google, together with NIC and the Danang Center for Research and Training in Microchip Design and Artificial Intelligence (DSAC), introduced two new programs for startups, including Google for Startups AI Bootcamp and Google for Startups AI Solutions Lab.
In addition, Google will provide the AI Essentials course in Vietnamese to meet the learning needs of Vietnamese users, providing knowledge on how to leverage generative AI tools to increase productivity and use AI responsibly.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung suggested that domestic and foreign technology corporations, research institutes, universities, businesses and people study and develop AI applications to practically serve each individual and organization.
With a young, dynamic, technology-savvy, and innovative workforce, Vietnam's human resources are not inferior to any other country.
“Vietnam is ready for the journey to become a regional and global R&D center for AI applications, moving forward strongly towards the goal of becoming an AI powerhouse,” the Deputy Prime Minister concluded.
Google for Startups AI Bootcamp 2025: A 3-day training program in Ho Chi Minh City for 100 startups (200 developers), helping developers master how to apply Google's latest AI features. Developers have the opportunity to consult and learn directly from Google experts and engineers on many important topics such as: ideation and implementation of GenAI solutions, rapid prototyping, MVP development (minimum viable product), skills to prepare and complete project content for fundraising...
Google for Startups AI Solutions Lab 2025: The hackathon will take place over 4 days at the Da Nang Artificial Intelligence and Circuit Design Research and Training Center (DSAC) with the participation of 50 startups, aiming to build GenAI solutions to address specific local challenges. Teams will be supported by DSAC with free workspace for 6 months. The 10 best teams will have the opportunity to introduce their products to representatives from the public and private sectors at Google Vietnam's biggest AI event of the year, scheduled to take place in September.
