Da Lat, seen from the villa window.

The old villas in Da Lat possess a modern aesthetic, with rooms offering expansive views, often overlooking the urban landscape. From the windows, one can admire the architectural works of art, the scenery, and the rhythm of life in the mountain town.

The harmonious design of the windows in the city of a thousand flowers creates an aesthetically pleasing and modern architectural art. The harmonious design of the windows in the city of a thousand flowers creates an aesthetically pleasing and modern architectural art.

On weekends, from the windows of Dalat Palace, I get a close-up view of Thuy Ta House, Xuan Huong Lake, Cu Hill, and the leisurely winding roads of the mountain town of Dalat; I can admire the distant Langbiang mountain range floating in the clouds. This hotel with its stunning architecture, formerly known as Langbian Palace, began construction in 1916 and opened six years later, following a modern architectural style combined with classical elements; its grounds cover more than 40,300 square meters, surrounded by flower gardens, ornamental trees, lawns, and pine forests. Like other contemporary architectural works, the Palace Hotel's facade faces Langbiang Mountain.

Dr. Emmanuel Cerise, an architect and representative of the Île-de-France region in Hanoi , once told me that every time he visits Da Lat, he feels like a schoolboy on a field trip to the French countryside. According to him, the influence of French architecture is very diverse in Da Lat because when people set foot in this land, they realize that it is a place where they can recreate a French-style city, as the landscape, nature, and climate are all similar to their homeland.

In the late 19th century, the French cleverly chose the Langbiang plateau, with its unique topography and climate, to build the resort city of Da Lat. The French were known for their romanticism, and they needed a romantic setting to construct a European-style city with a "nostalgic" feel.

This unique urban area has undergone many well-planned phases. Each phase of development was based on a different idea, but all were rooted in the core elements of architectural art combined with landscape and human resources. Many ancient architectural works here have become symbols, interwoven into the urban memory of Da Lat, etched in the minds of many.

In the morning, from the windows of the villas along the east-west heritage axis of Da Lat city, one can take in the panoramic view of the highland city, with layers of houses sloping down into the valley, hidden and revealed amidst pine forests and mist. At night, the sky seems to descend, shimmering with stars. In Da Lat city, each building and cluster of buildings is cleverly arranged to fully exploit the topographical features and natural landscape, creating a city with a unique identity, unmistakable from the architecture of other cities in the country and around the world .

"It can be affirmed that the core value that creates the Da Lat brand lies in its unique climate, natural landscape, historical culture, and architectural heritage system that is rarely found elsewhere," said Tran Ngoc Chinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association.

Da Lat is considered a "Museum of 20th-century French architecture in Vietnam." This highland city boasts approximately 1,500 villas, mansions, and ancient churches, considered typical examples of French architecture from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Among these are hundreds of elegant resort villas, nestled amidst enchanting pine forests and hills.

What is unique is that there is no repetition in style; each building is a perfect architectural masterpiece, embodying new aesthetic values while adhering to the principles of French-style urban design and adapting to the natural landscape and local culture in the overall urban architectural design.

Da Lat's undulating and gentle topography directs the view towards the Langbiang mountain range, creating a unique urban visual landscape. Da Lat bears the distinct mark of French architectural style and language, but conversely, these architects were also influenced by Da Lat's natural characteristics. This is a natural blend.

The architecture in this highland city is created from local inspiration, resulting in a unique and distinctive style. The art of landscape organization, natural conditions, human values, and architectural artistry have interwoven to create the image of Da Lat city.

Through the architectural design of the windows, the exterior landscape can be seen as if it were framed in an artistic painting. According to architect Tran Duc Loc, in the field of architecture, choosing views that create good perspectives for the interior of a building is important for viewers, especially the owners. Finding suitable window designs is equally important for architects when designing the exterior of a building.
