Da Nang announces Prime Minister's Decision on establishing Free Trade Zone

On the morning of June 22, Da Nang city held a ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's Decision on the establishment of Da Nang Free Trade Zone.

At the ceremony, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh presented the Prime Minister's Decision on the establishment of Da Nang Free Trade Zone.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Da Nang City, Mr. Le Trung Chinh affirmed that Resolution No. 136/2024/NQ-QH15 of the National Assembly on the organization of urban government and piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Da Nang City has strategic significance, orienting Da Nang to become one of the major socio -economic centers of the country and Southeast Asia, with the role of a center for innovation, finance, logistics and international trade.

The highlight of the special mechanism and policy that the National Assembly assigned to Da Nang city is to allow the establishment of Da Nang Free Trade Zone associated with Lien Chieu port.

After a period of urgent construction and completion of the Project to establish the Da Nang Free Trade Zone, the People's Committee of Da Nang City has carried out procedures to propose the establishment of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone, sending it to the Ministry of Finance for appraisal and submission to the Prime Minister for approval.

On June 13, 2025, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1142/QD-TTg on the establishment of Da Nang Free Trade Zone.

“It is a great honor and responsibility for Da Nang City to be the first locality in the country to be assigned to pilot this model. The establishment of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone is considered a breakthrough, a new institutional model with the expectation of creating an international development space, capable of leading green growth, innovation and attracting strategic investment,” Mr. Le Trung Chinh affirmed.

Da Nang Free Trade Zone has functional areas such as production, logistics; trade - services; digital technology industry, innovation and other types of functional areas according to the provisions of law.

In addition, the Da Nang Free Trade Zone will be developed in conjunction with the International Financial Center to turn Da Nang into a high-quality service center, creating a driving force to spread to the Central Highlands and the whole country; becoming an important link connecting the East-West Economic Corridor, the Asia-Pacific region and the world.

Mr. Le Trung Chinh said that the City has proactively reviewed and developed a plan with a series of tasks that need to be focused on implementing in the coming time to put the Da Nang Free Trade Zone into operation soon.

Da Nang City also continues to propose to supplement new, more open and superior mechanisms and policies applicable to the Da Nang Free Trade Zone under the authority of the National Assembly, the Government, and the Prime Minister to submit to competent authorities for consideration and decision; at the same time, research and propose to expand potential new locations after merging with Quang Nam province.

The Chairman of Da Nang City believes that domestic and foreign investors, organizations and individuals will be interested in learning about and planning to invest in the Da Nang Free Trade Zone, to soon form the Da Nang Free Trade Zone as an important link in the global supply chain network, a production - service - innovation center, playing the role of a strategic growth pole of the Central region and the whole country.

According to the Prime Minister's decision, the Da Nang Free Trade Zone has a scale of about 1,881 hectares located in non-contiguous locations, including functional areas such as production, logistics, trade - services, digital technology industry, information technology and innovation and other types of functional areas according to the provisions of law.

Da Nang Free Trade Zone is located in 7 locations. Specifically, locations 1 and 2 have an area of about 100 hectares and 77 hectares respectively, located in Hoa Hiep Bac ward, Lien Chieu district.

Location 3 has an area of about 500 hectares, located in Hoa Hiep Bac ward, Lien Chieu district and Hoa Lien commune, Hoa Vang district. Location 4 has an area of about 559 hectares, located in Hoa Ninh commune, Hoa Vang district.

Location 5 has an area of about 90 hectares located in Hoa Ninh commune, Hoa Vang district. Location 6 has an area of about 154 hectares located in Hoa Nhon and Hoa Ninh communes, Hoa Vang district. Location 7 has an area of about 401 hectares located in Hoa Nhon and Hoa Phu communes, Hoa Vang district.

Da Nang Free Trade Zone becomes an important link in the global supply chain network and the Asia-Pacific region; a production center, an international cargo transit hub connected to Lien Chieu port, Da Nang international airport and the East-West economic corridor; contributing to promoting the development of high-tech industry, innovation and digital transformation, actively contributing to the economic restructuring process of the new Da Nang city after merging with Quang Nam province towards sustainability and deep integration.

In addition, developing the Da Nang Free Trade Zone in conjunction with the International Financial Center in Da Nang city, forming a modern, smart, highly competitive economic ecosystem, creating great spillover, contributing to enhancing Vietnam's position in the region and internationally in the context of globalization.
