The Son Tra District Fishing Festival is an event that demonstrates the cultural traditions of the coastal fishing community.

The Whale Festival in Son Tra District aims to show respect and remember the ancestors who built temples, shrines, and mausoleums to worship Whales, praying for national peace, people's peace, favorable weather, and a good harvest.

The festival is held annually, rotating between 3 wards, including: Man Thai, Nai Hien Dong and Tho Quang. Chairman of Nai Hien Dong Ward People's Committee Cao Dinh Hai said that this year, the locality was chosen by Son Tra district as the place to organize the Cau Ngu Festival and the traditional boat race on the Han River as well as activities such as the Nam Hai God's Royal Edict Procession Ceremony, releasing floating flowers to commemorate fishermen who died in river and sea accidents, and the Launching Ceremony for Fishing...


The festival contributes to arousing the sense of pride and responsibility in the community for preserving and promoting the cultural values ​​of Son Tra coastal area.

The festival is held according to traditional rituals, consisting of two main parts: the ceremony and the festival. The ceremony includes main ceremonies such as the ceremony to inform the God of the Sea; the ceremony to welcome the God of the South Sea; the ceremony to pray for peace; and the ceremony to pray for crops.

The traditional festival has existed for generations and has become a traditional cultural feature with spiritual significance for fishermen.

In particular, the Nam Hai God's Royal Edict Procession is one of the outstanding activities to pay tribute to the Nam Hai God for saving fishermen from the storm and storm. At the same time, it also pays tribute to the ancestors who invented many tools and many types of fishing professions.


Exhibition and sale of specialty food stalls of coastal fishermen

The festival is organized with cultural and artistic activities of a community nature, imbued with the folk culture of coastal people such as folk singing, singing "Ba Trao", singing "Ba Choi" and traditional sports such as tug of war, rowing, net weaving, and pushing sticks.

This year’s traditional boat race on the Han River features 11 boat racing teams from coastal villages in Da Nang and neighboring localities. In addition, the festival also features booths displaying typical seafood products made by people in coastal wards.

The traditional boat race on the Han River is held annually on the occasion of the City Liberation Day (March 29).

The 2024 Son Tra District Fishing Festival is an opportunity for people to commemorate the merits of their ancestors and strengthen solidarity. This is also a unique cultural festival for people and tourists to learn about and experience the life of coastal fishermen.
