
On this occasion, the two faculties were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Prime Minister , recognizing their 7 decades of contributions to the training and research of foreign languages and cultures of the two friendly countries.
Seven decades of cultivating Chinese knowledge and cultural connections

On the morning of November 15, the campus of the University of Languages and International Studies - Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS) was bustling with the gathering of generations of lecturers, alumni and students of the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture. The 70th anniversary celebration was solemnly held, recalling the long journey of a leading faculty in Chinese language training in Vietnam.
Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hien, Head of the Department of Chinese Language and Culture, emphasized the initiative in innovating the training program. He shared that the department is promoting an interdisciplinary approach, bringing economics , commerce, communication, education and technology into teaching so that students have the ability to work in many fields.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hien said: “Students need to be equipped with open thinking, adaptability and professional skills, so that upon graduation they can meet job requirements in a rapidly changing market. We implement a system of applied courses, an integrated learning model and enhance practical experience at businesses.”
He also stressed plans to expand academic cooperation with universities in China, Taiwan (China), Japan and the region, promoting student exchange programs, specialized internships and joint research to enhance academic integration.

The Department of Chinese Language and Culture currently has 53 lecturers, including 39 PhDs and many trained at major universities in China, Japan and Vietnam. The number of scientific research papers, dozens of books and many specialized seminars held in recent years have created a serious academic environment, encouraging lecturers and students to conduct in-depth research.

During the exchange session, the stories of alumni brought many emotions. Alumni Ho Thanh Thu (K41) shared: “The faculty is where I grew up in knowledge and personality. The dedication of teachers and cultural activities made my love for Chinese always follow me in work and life.”
Fourth-year student Nguyen Minh Hanh expressed that the faculty's learning atmosphere creates opportunities for students to develop comprehensively: "Every cultural activity helps us understand more about Chinese society, and the teachers are always close and ready to support us in every step of our studies."

For the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture, the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit is an important milestone, demonstrating the State's recognition of the persistent efforts in training, research and promoting cultural exchange. This creates more motivation for the faculty to continue pursuing the goal of program innovation, expanding cooperation and improving the quality of human resources.
Spreading Russian humanistic values and knowledge

In the evening of the same day, the 70th anniversary celebration of the Faculty of Russian Language and Culture took place in a solemn atmosphere, recalling the years of close connection between education in Vietnam and the Soviet Union, and later the Russian Federation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Pham Duong Hong Ngoc, Head of the Department of Russian Language and Culture, said that the department is transforming strongly in the new context: "We are implementing modern training programs, increasing interactive courses, applying technology, developing combined classes and creating more space for students to practice communication and experience culture."


Dr. Hong Ngoc also emphasized the importance of scientific research activities, especially in the fields of linguistics, translation, intercultural communication and Russian language teaching methods. This is the foundation for the faculty to maintain training quality and affirm its position in the Vietnamese foreign language education system.
Teacher Pham Thi Lan Huong, a former student of K19 of the Faculty of Russian Language and Culture, said that learning Russian opened up many valuable experiences for her: “In 1987-1988, I went to Russia to study for a year. That period of time broadened my worldview and helped me understand Russian culture more deeply. Later, even though I switched to teaching English, the memories of Russian and the teachers of the Russian Faculty were always present.”


For the Faculty of Russian Language and Culture, receiving the Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister affirms the Faculty’s contributions over the past 7 decades of being associated with foreign language education and fostering the Vietnam-Russia friendship. This award is a great encouragement for the Faculty to implement modern training orientations, strengthen research and consolidate its position in the country’s foreign language education network.


Giving new impetus to traditional faculties
Dr. Nguyen Xuan Long, Principal of the University of Languages and International Studies - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, affirmed that the two Faculties: Chinese Language and Culture, Russian Language and Culture always hold a special position in the history of building the ULIS brand.
Dr. Nguyen Xuan Long said: “The two faculties are the units that laid the foundation for the formation and development of the school. Many generations of students have participated in diplomacy, trade, education, research and many other fields, making practical contributions to the country.”
Dr. Nguyen Xuan Long shared that ULIS is implementing three major orientations: Developing training programs according to international standards, strongly expanding academic cooperation with universities around the world and promoting digital transformation, applying technology, especially AI, to improve the effectiveness of foreign language teaching.
Dr. Nguyen Xuan Long emphasized that the development of the two traditional faculties is always part of the school's long-term strategy, with the goal of providing human resources to meet the requirements of comprehensive integration.
Two celebrations on the same day ended with the pride and gratitude of many generations. Seven decades of development of the two faculties is not only a story of foreign language training but also a journey of building cultural bridges between Vietnam and countries with rich histories. The values created during that long period continue to spread through each generation of students, through each research project and through the solidarity of the teaching staff.
The journey ahead poses many new requirements for training quality, technology, international exchange and learners’ adaptation to the global context. However, the 70-year tradition of knowledge, love for the profession and the desire to contribute is always a solid foundation to help the two faculties continue to develop.
Through the 70-year milestone and recognition from the State, the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture and the Faculty of Russian Language and Culture enter a new stage with faith in innovation, responsibility to the young generation and the expectation of continuing to contribute to making the University of Languages and International Studies - Vietnam National University, Hanoi become a strong foreign language training center in the region.
