The proposed plan to hand over the Administrative - Political Center of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province (old) to the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City has been submitted by the Department of Finance of Ho Chi Minh City to the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and relevant agencies for consideration and approval.
Adjusting the plan for using the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Administrative Center
Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance has issued a document updating, adjusting and supplementing the plan for arranging and allocating operating facilities for the following units in the city.
Notably, the proposal to use the old Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Administrative - Political Center to hand over to Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy is worth noting.
On September 29, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy sent a dispatch to Ho Chi Minh City leaders and the Department of Finance asking for permission to survey and receive this central area.
On October 1, the Department of Finance coordinated with relevant units to conduct a survey of the current status of the old headquarters of the Administrative - Political Center of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province (old).
Two large plots of land become training facilities and hospitals
According to the proposed plan, the land allocated to Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy includes two addresses: No. 1 Pham Van Dong, Ba Ria ward (land area of about 147,856m², floor area of about 204,499m²); and 179 Bach Dang, Ba Ria ward (land area of about 29,120m², floor area of about 33,030m²).
The entire central area will be converted into a branch of the educational , training and hospital operations of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City.
This plan is assessed to be effective in the management, operation and use of public assets, while also meeting the need for training combined with practice in the medical field, according to the Department of Finance.
Strategy for developing regional model medical schools
On the morning of October 8, speaking with Tuoi Tre , Prof. Dr. Tran Diep Tuan - Chairman of the Board of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, confirmed that the school had recently sent an official dispatch to the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Finance asking for permission to survey and receive the Administrative - Political Center of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province (old).
According to the school’s leadership, the school is facing many difficulties in terms of space for development. The school currently has about 16,000 students, 6,000 staff and medical staff, while the school’s hospital receives about 9,000 patients every day.
"We are in the process of expanding our training scale towards multi-disciplinary, multi-field, modernization and international integration. Therefore, having a new facility is extremely urgent," said Mr. Tuan.
According to Mr. Tuan, the school is implementing a development strategy for the 2025-2030 period to concretize the resolutions of the Party and the Government. The school aims to become the leading university in Vietnam and among the top 100 universities in Asia in the field of health sciences.
In the project "Developing a number of large higher education institutions in the Southeast region towards achieving regional advanced levels", Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy will increase the training scale by 11,000 more students, build two practice facilities with about 750 beds and many specialized research centers to train and evaluate professional practice capacity to meet international standards.
The school hopes that the campus in Ba Ria - Vung Tau will become a model medical university, combining training - hospital practice - research - start-up - enterprise.
With the advantage of a central location, close to tourist resorts such as Ho Tram, Binh Chau, Long Hai, Can Gio and convenient connection to Ho Chi Minh City via belt routes 3 and 4, the school aims to build this place into a regional-scale medical tourism - resort center, contributing to the development of Ho Chi Minh City into an "international super city".
Waiting for handover of facility to Vietnam-Germany University
In addition, Ho Chi Minh City also proposed to allocate the facility at 639 Nguyen Trai, Cho Lon Ward - formerly the headquarters of Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports - to the Vietnam-Germany University.
However, up to now, the Ministry of Education and Training has not yet had an official response on the handover of this facility.
