Dak Lak: Song Ba Ha Hydropower Plant releases 16,100m³/s, downstream is heavily flooded

At 5:15 p.m., Song Ba Ha Hydropower Company announced that the current water flow into the lake is 16,120 m3/s, the water flow discharged through the spillway to the downstream is 16,100 m3/s. The company is regulating the water flow discharged through the spillway to approximately equal the water flow into the lake, maintaining the lake water level at 105 m.

With the water flow of Song Ba Ha Hydropower Plant being too large, many residential areas in the downstream area were severely flooded. Responding quickly by phone, a leader of the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee said: "Currently, the reservoir of Song Ba Ha Hydropower Plant has exceeded the spillway, it cannot cut off the flood. Therefore, the hydropower plant must release as much water as it can, there is no other way. The urgent issue now is to focus on supporting and ensuring the safety of people in the downstream area that are being flooded."

At 3:15 p.m., Song Ba Ha Hydropower Plant was discharging water through the spillway at a flow rate of 16,100 m ³ /s.

According to a quick report from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dak Lak province, in the past 24 hours, heavy rains over a large area caused the water level of Ba River, Ky Lo River... to rise very quickly, many areas were flooded 1-3m deep. In the whole Dak Lak province, 8,513 households in 80 villages/hamlets were flooded. The authorities have evacuated nearly 2,000 households with 5,621 people to safety. In Tuy An and Dong Xuan communes..., many residential areas are still isolated and inaccessible due to high and fast-flowing water.

Police forces in the eastern communes of Dak Lak province are making efforts to evacuate people from dangerous areas.

Mr. Ta Anh Tuan, Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, has issued a telegram requesting localities, departments and branches to closely monitor the development of floods and rains, and promptly update warnings to the people. Localities are required to proactively deploy plans to evacuate people in dangerous, deeply flooded and isolated areas; resolutely evacuate people, vehicles and property from dangerous areas, deeply flooded and isolated areas to ensure the safety of people's lives and property; and prepare to ensure food and essential needs at the concentrated evacuation sites.

At the same time, the Provincial Military Command and Dak Lak Provincial Police are required to mobilize forces, all means, and all measures to immediately approach residential areas that are deeply flooded, cut off, isolated, and eroded to promptly evacuate people to safety. In addition, units and localities are required to review and ensure the safety of reservoirs, especially irrigation and small hydropower reservoirs; arrange forces on duty 24/7, ready to operate and regulate when situations arise...
