Efforts to clean up the environment and limit disease after floods

After many days of being severely affected by floods, the water on the roads and residential areas in the eastern communes and wards has gradually receded, leaving behind large amounts of mud, dragging along dozens of tons of waste and damaged items. The risk of disease outbreaks is very high.

As soon as the weather stabilized, Phu Yen Urban Environment Joint Stock Company also coordinated with local authorities to mobilize all forces and people to join hands in cleaning up and quickly restoring environmental sanitation.

From early morning until late at night, hundreds of cadres, youth union members, militia and people collected garbage and shoveled mud from main roads, alleys and public areas. On many roads, the thick layer of mud and sand forced authorities to mobilize excavators and bulldozers to handle the situation, ensuring smooth traffic and limiting the risk of disease outbreaks after the flood.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Thanh, Chairman of Tuy Hoa Ward People's Committee, said that the amount of mud and soil after this flood was thick and widespread, causing many difficulties for collection work, especially on main roads and centers where the amount of garbage was very large.

However, the local authorities have promptly coordinated with functional units to arrange excavators, trucks and supporting equipment to speed up the environmental sanitation progress. At the same time, the ward has increased propaganda so that people can classify and collect garbage in the right places to avoid re-pollution.

The amount of mud and sand deposited on the main road Tran Hung Dao of Tuy Hoa ward is very thick, it must be treated by bulldozers to restore the road surface for new vehicles to circulate.

In Dong Xuan commune, Mr. Huynh Tuan An, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said that immediately after the water receded, the locality mobilized all forces to dredge mud, clear the flow, and clean the central roads with the support of military forces to quickly restore a clean environment and prevent the outbreak of diseases.

At the same time, the commune health force also sprayed disinfectants in residential areas, schools and high-risk locations.

Mr. Tran Minh Hoang, Director of Phu Yen Urban Environment Joint Stock Company, informed: every day the unit mobilizes more than 100 workers and dozens of collection vehicles to operate at full capacity. In areas with heavy silting, the unit must dispatch additional dredgers and excavators to handle the problem. Up to now, the main roads have basically been cleared.

People also took the opportunity to rake mud when the flood waters receded.

Thanks to the proactiveness of the government and the cooperation of the people, the work of overcoming the consequences of natural disasters in communes and wards is being urgently deployed, gradually bringing people's lives back to normal.
