In Son La province, there is a high-voltage grid system (from 110 kV and above) transmitting electricity from large hydropower plants such as Son La, Huoi Quang, Nam Chien... to the load center in the province and connecting with the national grid. There is a 500 kV Son La - Hoa Binh - Hiep Hoa line, which is a strategic transmission line to bring electricity from large hydropower plants in the Northwest region to the load center in the North. The 220 kV grid connects transformer stations and medium/large hydropower plants to the transmission grid, ensuring the distribution of electricity to areas in the province and to neighboring provinces. The 110 kV grid covers all communes and wards, playing the role of the "backbone" providing electricity to industrial zones, residential areas, services and rural areas.
Ensuring the safety of the high-voltage grid is especially important to help the grid operate continuously and stably without incidents. Because violations of the corridor can cause broken poles, short circuits, electric discharges... causing widespread power outages, endangering people's lives and property, and more dangerously for the 500 kV and 220 kV lines, affecting the security of national power supply.
With the participation of functional agencies, the Electricity sector and Party committees and authorities at all levels, people's awareness of protecting the safety corridor of high-voltage power grids has been gradually raised; most high-voltage power lines have maintained safety corridors according to regulations.
However, in some places, there are still violations of the power grid corridor, such as: People plant perennial trees for wood under or close to the power line, which can cause the power line to fall during storms; there is still a situation of building houses and works encroaching on the corridor, especially in urban areas and along national highways; gathering flammable materials (straw, firewood, bamboo, rattan) near poles and transformer stations; arbitrarily exploiting and digging soil near the pole foundation, causing structural instability.
Management at the grassroots level is still limited, some communes have not been proactive in checking and preventing early. Objective difficulties such as mountainous terrain, power lines passing through production forests, remote areas, difficult to access, and regular monitoring.
Faced with the above situation, the Provincial People's Committee has just issued an official dispatch directing the strengthening of measures to ensure electrical safety and minimize violations of the high-voltage grid safety corridor in the province. Requesting provincial departments and branches; People's Committees of communes and wards; Son La Electricity Company; Tay Bac 2 Power Transmission to implement regulations on the protection of power works and safety in the electricity sector.
Direct the People's Committees of communes and wards to coordinate with Son La Power Company, Tay Bac 2 Power Transmission, and regional power management teams to propagate and guide people to ensure safe distances in power grid corridors to avoid risks of electric discharge and explosion. Propagate to people and management and operation units to comply with legal regulations such as: The Electricity Law, Decree No. 62/2025/ND-CP detailing the implementation of the Electricity Law on the protection of power works and safety in the electricity sector, clearly defining the responsibility for protecting the safety corridor of high-voltage power grids, ensuring association with socio -economic development and national energy security, serving the stability of industrial production, tourism, agriculture and people's lives in the province.
Mr. Doan Van Chau, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, shared: The Department strengthens inspection and supervision of the organization of implementation of electrical safety, minimizing violations of high-voltage power grid safety corridors of agencies and units. Regularly direct the electricity sector to coordinate with local authorities to organize periodic and surprise inspections, especially before the rainy season; promptly handle violations such as trimming and cutting down illegal trees, dismantling encroaching structures, and moving flammable materials; strengthen propaganda in many forms such as mobilizing, explaining, and combining with making records when the householder intentionally does not comply.
Son La Power Company is managing and operating 2 hydropower plants; 9 110kV transformer stations; 3,182 distribution transformer stations, with a total of more than 11,500 km of power lines of all kinds, ensuring power supply for more than 364,000 customers in the province.
Mr. Tran Duy Trinh, Director of the Company, said: The Company strengthens patrolling and inspection of electrical works in areas and regions with risks of unsafety, promptly taking measures to prevent possible electrical accidents. Coordinate with localities where power grid works are located in implementing measures to ensure safety for high-voltage power grid corridors and minimize electrical accidents. Propagate and remind people living near power line corridors to raise awareness of protecting high-voltage power grid safety corridors according to the provisions of law, knowledge of electrical safety, helping people and businesses prevent violations of high-voltage power grid safety and electrical safety violations.
To ensure safety and minimize violations of the high-voltage grid safety corridor in the province, especially during this year's flood season, all levels and sectors have strengthened control, inspection and handling of violations of the corridor. Son La Power Company regularly reserves materials, equipment, human resources, develops emergency power outage plans to avoid accidents and promptly resolve incidents when they occur.
In addition to synchronous solutions and drastic participation of all levels and sectors, people also need to raise awareness and responsibility for protecting the power grid corridor, ensuring a safe and continuous power system, meeting the electricity needs of production and daily life of the people, serving socio-economic development.
