Republicans reveal priorities for first 100 days if Trump wins

Republican leaders are drawing up a second-term agenda for Trump, in preparation for the former president's election. According to The Hill, Republican lawmakers in the US Congress are actively preparing for the first 100 days of former President Donald Trump's second term if he wins the election. The Hill's source revealed that Republican Minority Leader in the Senate Mitch McConnell, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, and Republican Majority Leader in the House Steve Scalise are the ones who are outlining the top goals for the Trump administration, in order to ensure Republican unity in the White House after the November election. "I have spoken to Mr. Trump. His top priorities are getting the US economy back on track and strengthening border protection," Mr. Scalise said.

Specifically, Republicans are considering funding for a new border security program, including the completion of Mr. Trump’s iconic border wall. They are also considering budget cuts to several government agencies that Mr. Trump’s allies say have been “weaponized” under the Biden administration. Another priority is tax cuts, as the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, Mr. Trump’s signature legislative achievement, is set to expire at the end of 2025. In addition, Republicans are planning the most ambitious budget package possible for the first year of Mr. Trump’s second term. However, how far this agenda can go will depend entirely on the results of the US presidential election in November, as well as the ability of Republicans to regain control of the Senate and retain their majority in the House of Representatives.
