Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien won the gold medal at the world gymnastics cup

At this World Challenge Cup, Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien competes in the pommel horse event. This is the forte of the athlete born in 2002, when he has won gold medals many times at the SEA Games.

However, in a world-class playground like the World Cup Challenge Cup, things are very different. Entering this tournament, Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien did not have as many expectations as Nguyen Van Khanh Phong or Dinh Phuong Thanh.

However, it was he who brought home the first gold medal for the Vietnamese gymnastics team. On the evening of May 10, Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien excellently completed the final round of the vault event with the highest ranking.

On his personal Facebook, the coach of the Vietnamese gymnastics team, Mr. Truong Minh Sang, expressed his excitement: "Gold! Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien won the gold medal in the vault."

The coach later posted a video of his student standing on the medal podium and singing the national anthem after winning. The silver medal was won by Kazakhstan's Zeinolla Idrissov and the bronze medal was won by Uzbekistan's Abdulla Azimov.

Although Xuan Thien’s gold medal achievement was somewhat surprising, it came from the athlete’s stability from the beginning of the tournament. Right from the qualifying round, he competed excellently with a high score of 14,850, the highest among the 29 participants.

On May 10, Vietnam gymnastics had one more athlete competing, Nguyen Van Khanh Phong, in the final round of the hanging rings event. At the end of his competition, Nguyen Van Khanh Phong excellently won the silver medal.

The FIG World Challenge Cup 2025 will take place in Bulgaria from May 8 to 11. The Vietnamese gymnastics team will participate with five athletes: Trinh Hai Khang, Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien, Nguyen Van Khanh Phong, Dinh Phuong Thanh and Do Nam Anh.
