Director Nguyen Tan Kiet said that in addition to rewarding and encouraging organizations and individuals who actively contribute to the preservation and promotion of the artistic value of Southern amateur music, the special art program with the theme "Southern amateur music - Shining heritage" will be a meaningful highlight to honor a heritage that has existed in the hearts of the public who love pentatonic music .

Because, the art of Southern amateur music is a Vietnamese folk music genre that has a large area of ​​influence within 21 southern provinces and cities.

Don ca tai tu was formed and developed from the end of the 19th century, originating from ceremonial music, Hue royal court music and folk culture.

"At the 8th Conference of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Baku city, Republic of Azerbaijan, from December 2 to 8, 2013, the art of Southern amateur music was officially recognized by UNESCO as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

The program to announce this important event was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and other localities in December 2013.

Since then, the Southern localities have taken turns hosting the Southern Traditional Music Festival. The first time was in Bac Lieu, the second time was in Binh Duong and the third time was in Can Tho city" - General Director Nguyen Tan Kiet said.

Mr. Kiet was the general director of the closing program of the first and second Southern Traditional Music Festival. Now, he is assigned a meaningful program to celebrate the 10th anniversary of UNESCO officially recognizing the Southern Traditional Music of Vietnam as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, so he is under a lot of pressure.

"However, this is also an opportunity for myself and the program crew to contribute our efforts to fuel the passion and love for the art of Don ca tai tu, a great and precious heritage of the Southern region" - General Director Nguyen Tan Kiet said.

The program has 3 chapters: Chapter 1 "Fate", Chapter 2 "Convergence and Sublimation" and Chapter 3 "Shining Heritage".

The special art program clearly depicts the formation and development process of Southern amateur music from the late 19th century to the present, especially this unique art form still exists and develops deeply and widely in the environment of modern urban life in Ho Chi Minh City.

The program gathered many People's Artists, Meritorious Artists, amateur musicians, singers and artists: Quoc Dai, Cao Cong Nghia, Meritorious Artist Le Tu, Meritorious Artist Le Hong Tham, Ha Nhu, Vo Minh Lam, FM group, 135 group, Mat Ngoc group and dance groups May Trang, Mat Troi, ABC.

After 10 years since December 5, 2013, the art of Southern amateur music was officially recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Ho Chi Minh City has made many tireless efforts in preserving and promoting the value of this unique art form.
