Workshop "Southern amateur music in Long An province - Solutions for preservation and development"

Long An University of Industry and Economics (DLA) solemnly organized a scientific conference with the theme "Southern amateur music in Long An province - Solutions for preservation and development". Attending were representatives of the Department of Science and Technology; Deputy Director of the Tay Ninh Provincial Center for Culture and Arts Le Thi Cam Chau; Vice President of the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts, Folk Artist Nguyen Van Chieu; amateur music artists, cultural researchers, staff, lecturers and students of the school.

Dr. Do Quoc Dung presented the topic at the conference.

The main speaker of the workshop was Dr. Do Quoc Dung, Head of the provincial scientific project: “Southern amateur music in Long An province (old) – Solutions for preservation and development”.

The project was approved by the Long An Provincial Review Council (old) on October 19, 2023 and will be accepted in August 2025.

In his presentation, Dr. Do Quoc Dung provided a general and scientific overview of the current situation, cultural values, as well as challenges in preserving Southern amateur music in Long An (old).

With an interdisciplinary approach combining cultural studies, education and communication, Dr. Do Quoc Dung proposed highly feasible groups of solutions, including: building an ecosystem to preserve amateur music in the community; enhancing the role of artisans in traditional cultural education ; integrating amateur music content into extracurricular activities at schools and especially utilizing digital technology to spread the art of amateur music to young people.

Speaking at the workshop, Chairman of the Council of Long An University of Industry and Economics    Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Phuong Phi affirmed: “Don ca tai tu is not only the cultural pride of the people of the South, but also the responsibility of the whole society, especially educational institutions like DLA, to preserve. The school will continue to accompany applied research to bring Don ca tai tu closer to students and young people - the generation that inherits the heritage”.

The workshop also received many practical opinions from artisans and experts, especially the establishment of amateur music clubs, organizing experiential classes and promoting traditional art in a modern direction.

This is a meaningful activity to honor and find a sustainable direction for the traditional art form typical of the Southern region, at the same time, connecting scientific research and local cultural practices./.
