AFF officially applies VAR at the final match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament

On July 28, the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) officially announced the application of VAR technology in the final match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship between the Vietnam U23 team and the Indonesia U23 team.

According to the announcement, AFF said the decision to deploy VAR in the final match aims to ensure the highest standards of refereeing and fair-play spirit, and affirmed that applying VAR in the championship-deciding match will contribute to improving accuracy in key situations and enhancing fairness and transparency for the tournament.

The final match between U23 Vietnam and U23 Indonesia will take place at 8:00 p.m. on July 29, 2025 at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta. This is the third consecutive time U23 Vietnam has participated in the final match of the Southeast Asian U23 tournament after winning the championship twice in 2022 and 2023. The first application of VAR in a match at the Southeast Asian U23 level also shows an important step forward in the organization and operation of the tournament by AFF.
