From these factors, director Victor Vu came up with the idea of ​​making a film project that returns to his forte, which is a horror, detective, and mysterious crime-solving adventure called "Detective Kien: The Headless Case".

The film is a horror-detective genre with a historical setting, when the character Kien is invited to a village to investigate a mysterious disappearance.

The film features the return of Quan Thay Kien – Quoc Huy, who was also loved in the film “The Last Wife”. He is also the person most expected and “suggested” by the audience for Detective Kien when director Victor Vu shared his intention to make a separate film about this character.

However, to return to the role of Quan Thay Kien, actor Quoc Huy also had to go through casting like other actors. Director Victor Vu explained that the film's script was built in parallel with "The Last Wife", exploiting the detective storyline in the novel "Ho Oan Han". Therefore, the story and setting of the character will be 60-70% different from "The Last Wife", more detailed, complex and profound, so he and the producer wanted to cast to be fair to the character.

Actor Quoc Huy said that although he had the advantage of having played the role before, due to the differences in the script, he was only 50% confident that he would be chosen and received the good news in a very nervous mood. Similar to Dinh Ngoc Diep's character Hai Man, the actress also had to audition again and was chosen to ensure continuity from "The Last Wife".

In addition, Victor Vu and the producer also announced other roles with a potential young cast: Quoc Anh as Thac, Pham Quynh Anh as Tuyet and Minh Anh as Nga. The three young actors of the film all shared their overwhelming feelings when working with director Victor Vu, whom they have always admired and wanted to collaborate with once. The challenging ancient setting also stimulates the spirit of conquering challenges. Actress Minh Anh also said that she failed the casting many times just because she was too tall, until she was chosen by director Victor Vu and the role of Nga was her first film role.

The film “Detective Kien: The Headless Case” is also a milestone in director Victor Vu’s 20-year journey in cinema. He shared: “During my 20 years in the profession, I have made many genres of films such as romance, history, and horror. ‘Detective Kien’ combines many elements that are both my interests and strengths, such as horror and detective, as I have been successful with ‘Scandal’ 1 and 2, ‘Bloody Heart’, and ‘Thien Menh Anh Hung’ in the historical setting. I believe in this choice because of the content, the investment in production form, and the reception it has received from the public.”

The project “Detective Kien: Headless Case” also marks the reunion with Victor Vu's partner and familiar friend: Producer and Distributor Galaxy.

Galaxy has accompanied Victor Vu in many blockbuster movies such as “The Bride Wars” 1 and 2, “Scandal” 1 and 2, “Bloody Heart”, “I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass”, “Blue Eyes”. Therefore, the reunion of this director-distributor duo promises a well-crafted and engaging work on the big screen.
