After more than 10 days of release, it was thought to be overshadowed by the heavily promoted films before, but "Dao, Pho, Piano" by director Phi Tien Son is becoming a strange phenomenon when it has continuously "sold out" tickets in recent days. Even at some times, the website of the National Cinema Center stopped working because the number of viewers accessing to buy tickets increased sharply. According to the latest information from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, some theaters have accepted to release the film "Dao, Pho and Piano" such as Beta Media and Cinestar. These units accept to release it for free and pay all revenue to the State.

Mr. Tran Hung said: "When I watched the film, I was really moved. Each scene depicted the historical period of the Hanoi army and people during the resistance war. Dao, Pho, Piano easily captured the audience's emotions thanks to the tight script and the actors' excellent acting."

Audience member Pham Thao said: “When I watched it, I felt very emotional. The sacred feelings of people who love their country made me sympathize. I am a Hanoian, a Vietnamese, when I watched a film about patriotism that was made carefully and kindly, the sympathy came very easily, affirming that it is a good film.”

Unable to buy tickets for the movie “Dao, Pho and Piano” through the website of the National Cinema Center, many viewers had to go to the theater early in the morning to buy tickets. The movie is becoming a hot topic on social networking sites, enthusiastically received by the audience because of the meticulousness of the script and the message the movie wants to convey.

It can be affirmed that “Dao, Pho and Piano” has created an unprecedented phenomenon for a historical film ordered by the state. According to Box Office Vietnam, as of the morning of February 20, the film has earned more than 500 million VND, a quite impressive number for a State-run film that sells tickets at only one theater. With 18 screenings per day and more than 3,000 tickets sold, the occupancy rate of Dao, Pho and Piano is very high, up to 90% at each screening.

According to Mr. Vu Duc Tung - Acting Director of the National Cinema Center, in recent days the center has had to continuously increase the screening of the movie "Dao, Pho and Piano" to meet the needs of the audience: "Currently, due to too many screenings, of course the center has also increased some screenings of the movie "Dao, Pho, Piano". The whole system is overloaded, with many screenings and each screening is almost full. Currently, tickets are full, the center will continue to have solutions to increase screenings to serve the audience in the coming days".

“Peach, Pho and Piano” is set in the context of the 60-day winter-spring battle from late 1946 to early 1947 in Hanoi. The story follows the militiaman Van Dan (played by Doan Quoc Dam) and his love story with the piano-loving young lady Thuc Huong (played by Cao Thi Thuy Linh). When the others had evacuated to the war zone, they decided to stay in the capital that had been devastated by bombs, despite the dangers that awaited them. In addition, the film is also the story of an old painter; a passionate pho seller and his wife, a shoe shiner who always remembers the peaceful old days, wishing for a military cap.

Each character carries a different fate and story. What they have in common is an optimistic, positive spirit amidst the devastation and harshness of war, as well as a certain death.

With an investment budget of 20 billion VND, the film not only gathers a cast of talented actors such as Meritorious Artist Tran Luc, Doan Quoc Dam, People's Artist Trung Hieu, Thuy Linh... but the setting and costumes are also invested in carefully and seriously by the crew. The film crew spent nearly half a year constructing and designing an old quarter of Hanoi in the 1940s with grocery stores, tailor shops, restaurants, tram cars... and the old barricade scene. Meritorious Artist Phi Tien Son, director of the film "Peach, Pho, Piano" and artist Viet Hung, the film's art designer said: "Over the years, the setting in the film has been lost, we choose something easy and cheap. This film is a huge investment of the studio and the passion of the design team".

“When choosing the scene, we went to many places but none of them were suitable, so the whole crew decided to rebuild from scratch, with a street of about 100 square meters from a 1/40 scale model to a 1/1 scale. This was a challenge for the entire crew and the producer. When building such a large street, there were times when it took 60-70 people to do it.”

Appreciating the script as well as the dedication of the film crew of “Peach, Pho and Piano”, director Dao Thanh Hung said: “Peach, Pho and Piano is truly a beautiful film, an epic for the people of Hanoi. This film not only invests in the setting but I also see the dedication of the entire production crew headed by director Phi Tien Son, the meticulousness from departments such as props, makeup, costumes, smoke and fire... Regarding the content of the film, this is a very smart and new way of storytelling, taking 24 hours to tell a film story on the last day, the last people before Hanoi was completely occupied. Those people for many reasons chose to stay in Hanoi, simply because it is the land that they all love, making the audience nervous not knowing who, or when, who will have to lie down”.

Good movies are the first reason for audiences to go to the cinema, after the positive signals of “Dao, Pho and Piano”, war-themed movies, ordered by the State, can completely reach a wide audience, especially young people. This also shows that young people are not indifferent to historical topics, as long as the movies are made seriously, meticulously and have a new approach.
