(Baoquangngai.vn) - Opening training classes for captains and chief engineers not only equips fishermen with knowledge about operating marine vehicles and equipment, how to troubleshoot and repair ship engines when problems arise, but also helps fishermen master the regulations when working at sea.
On the afternoon of November 28, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai City held the opening ceremony of the 2nd class fishing boat captain and chief engineer class for nearly 90 fishermen from coastal communes in the area.
The training course for captains and chief engineers takes place over 11 days (including theory and practice) taught by lecturers from the Center for Seafarer Training and Marine Technology Development.
By participating in the training course, fishermen are equipped with the skills and expertise of captains, chief engineers, and crew members; legal knowledge of the Law of the Sea of Vietnam, the Law on Maritime Affairs; the 2017 Law on Fisheries; international rules on preventing and preventing collisions at sea; procedures for using communication equipment and maritime safety at sea; mastering response skills, ensuring safety of fishing vessels, exploiting and protecting aquatic resources at sea...

Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai City People's Committee Nguyen Lam said that the city has 5 coastal communes, with about 1,700 fishing boats. To ensure the conditions for fishermen to confidently go out to sea, Quang Ngai City People's Committee has implemented support solutions, especially organizing training courses for captains and chief engineers of second-class fishing boats for fishermen.

“Through the training course, fishermen will also understand and not violate the provisions of the law when participating in fishing activities at sea, especially violations against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU), helping fishermen feel secure to go offshore and develop the economy . In the coming time, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai City will continue to coordinate with coastal communes to organize training courses for new captains and chief engineers for fishermen,” emphasized Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai City Nguyen Lam.
