Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend and speak at the High-level General Debate of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly taking place in New York, USA on September 22.
Promoting relations with the United Nations has been identified as one of the focuses of Vietnam's multilateral diplomacy over the years. On September 20, 1977, Vietnam officially joined the United Nations. Over the past 40 years, the Vietnam-United Nations cooperation has contributed to protecting and promoting national interests, especially maintaining and consolidating a peaceful, secure and favorable environment for national development. At the same time, it has promoted deeper international integration and contributed to enhancing Vietnam's position and image in the international arena; deepening our relations with countries, key partners, friends and mobilizing an important resource for national development. On the other hand, Vietnam has proactively and increasingly substantially contributed to the activities of the United Nations. Vietnam is considered by the United Nations and the international community as a successful example in implementing the Millennium Development Goals; Vietnam is a country determined and serious in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Vietnam also actively promotes initiatives to reform the United Nations, and is considered one of the leading countries in implementing the United Nations' "Delivering as One" initiative to increase the effectiveness of the organization's operations at the national level. With its contributions, Vietnam has been elected to many important positions and agencies of the United Nations and has left many "Vietnamese marks" in agencies such as the Security Council, the Human Rights Council, and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Over the past 45 years, from the period of post-war national reconstruction to the period of breaking the embargo and gradually integrating more deeply into the international community, the cooperation between Vietnam and the United Nations has been of great significance and has had positive effects, meeting the requirements and interests of Vietnam in each period, while contributing to enhancing the role, voice and "imprint" of Vietnam's contributions to the United Nations. These results will facilitate the joint efforts of Vietnam and the United Nations in overcoming existing shortcomings, expanding and further enhancing the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation. Thereby, actively supporting Vietnam's national development and international integration and contributing to enhancing the role of the United Nations in the new period.
