Caring for vulnerable youth
For over 2 years, the free rice kitchen of To Chau Ward Youth Union has been operating regularly every month. Each time, it serves 150 - 250 meals to poor patients, caregivers at the medical center, as well as workers in difficult circumstances in the area. Each portion of rice, although not of great value, contains the hearts of union members, youth and philanthropists for the less fortunate and disadvantaged people in society.

Mr. Duong Thanh Loc - Secretary of the Youth Union of Ward 3, To Chau Ward said: “I have participated in the zero-dong rice kitchen since its inception. Not only did I mobilize necessities for the kitchen, I also cooked. The other members participated enthusiastically and happily. Everyone contributed their own money, some contributed labor, some contributed money, with the hope that the kitchen would operate for a long time and could share the hardships in the lives of poor workers.”
Secretary of the To Chau Ward Youth Union, Ha Thanh Tan, said: “In addition to the zero-dong rice kitchen model, the Ward Youth Union also actively mobilizes philanthropists, coordinates with departments, branches, and organizations in the ward to organize many other practical and meaningful activities to care for disadvantaged circumstances, orphans, and lonely elderly people in the area such as the health insurance purchase model, the welfare bag model, the car wash model to raise funds to help poor children; foster children of the Youth Union; happy tea shop; giving thousands of gifts to poor and near-poor households, awarding scholarships to students in difficult circumstances; supporting costs and working days to build and repair charity houses, raising funds to support going to school…”.
Lam Ho My Huyen, born in 2003, residing in Group 5, Rach Vuoc Hamlet, To Chau Ward, is a young person in particularly difficult circumstances with lung disease. Her family does not have enough money to take her for treatment. Knowing Huyen's situation, the Hamlet Youth Union proposed that the To Chau Ward Youth Union support the cost of buying 6 months of health insurance to help her family reduce the cost of treatment.
Over the past 3 years, the model of supporting health insurance for poor students implemented by the To Chau Ward Youth Union has been effective. Each year, the Ward Youth Union supports 30-40 health insurance cards for students. The timely attention and support has helped students confidently go to school, reducing the economic burden on their families, contributing to the completion of the health insurance targets set by the Party Committee and the Ward People's Committee.
Contribute to building civilized urban areas
To Chau Ward was established on the basis of merging Duong Hoa Commune, Thuan Yen Commune and the old To Chau Ward. The area has been expanded, the total number of union members is currently about 447, currently operating in 26 affiliated union bases. With the spirit of youth shock, the ward's youth is the pioneer force in volunteer movements, joining hands to build urban civilization. Many volunteer projects and tasks when launched received the active participation and response of union members and youth. In the period of 2022 - 2025, the ward's Youth Union undertakes youth projects and tasks according to practical requirements in the locality such as blooming electric poles, 3-in-1 flag routes, youth vegetable gardens, propaganda tires, garbage incinerators, flower routes; planting 2,000 trees to maintain bright, green, clean and beautiful road sections...
Ms. Quach Thi Hong Van - a member of the Rach Vuoc Hamlet Youth Union said: "Youth Union members are always proactive in garbage collection activities, cleaning and taking care of youth roads... contributing to improving the urban landscape of the ward to be more civilized, clean and beautiful."
According to Mr. Ha Thanh Tan, due to the merger, in order for the Youth Union movement to operate effectively and meet the requirements, the Ward Youth Union Executive Committee focuses on propaganda and education for young people, mobilizing and recruiting new members in conjunction with movements and volunteer activities taking place throughout the year. The Ward Youth Union strives to have one small volunteer activity each week and one large volunteer activity each month. The Ward Youth Union continues to maintain volunteer movements such as Green Sunday, Volunteer Saturday, organize youth playgrounds, propagate and disseminate laws at schools, in conjunction with social security activities, support and help vulnerable youth in the area.
