At the Department of Plastic Surgery and Rehabilitation (Central Dermatology Hospital), the patient said he had his jaws slimmed with botulinum toxin (botox) 4 months ago at a spa to celebrate Tet.
One month after the injection, the patient had swelling, pain, and redness in the jaw angle on both sides, so he returned to the spa and had the injection area on the left jaw angle incised and was given antibiotics.
The lesion stabilized for a week and then became painful and swollen again. The woman went to a private hospital and was diagnosed with an abscess on the left cheek. She was treated with antibiotics and had the lesion incised again on the left cheek. The lesion improved slightly and left a scar that contracted the left jaw angle. The patient took anti-inflammatory drugs for 10 days but the lesion did not improve.
At this time, the patient came to the Central Dermatology Hospital for examination. Doctor Vu Nguyen Binh, Department of Plastic Surgery and Rehabilitation, determined that the patient had complications after injecting medicine into the jaw angle on both sides.
Ultrasound results of the patient's bilateral jaw angle showed a fluid collection, especially in the left jaw angle, where the fluid collection formed many cavities and niches spreading to the entire cheek area.
"The worrying thing is that it is impossible to know what drug the patient was injected with, whether the injection process was sterile, and whether complications were properly treated," said Dr. Binh.
At the Central Dermatology Hospital, the patient was incised to control the damage. The left cheek area was a cavity full of mucus and dirt, forming many niches and holes, difficult to clean completely. The right cheek area was an abscess with thick pus.
After the incision, the patient was given antibiotics and daily irrigation and dressing changes. As of May 18, the wound is progressing well and is free of pus.
Dr. Nguyen Hong Son, Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery and Rehabilitation, recommends that before performing any cosmetic surgery or procedure, people need to carefully research whether the facility they choose to perform the service is licensed, qualified to perform the service, and whether the person performing the service is certified to practice in this field.
As soon as there are unusual signs, you should go to a specialized hospital immediately for examination and early treatment.
