Investing 350,000 billion VND to revive culture is still a small number.

On the afternoon of February 29, at the Party Central Committee headquarters, Party and State leaders met with intellectuals, scientists , and artists on the occasion of the Spring of Giap Thin 2024.

During the discussion and recommendations to the Party and State leaders, some people spoke up about the figure of 350,000 billion VND that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposed for cultural revival. Some people said that this was too much money while people were still facing difficulties.

In response, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association Nguyen Quang Thieu said that investment in cultural revival requires long-term and large resources. He said: "VND350,000 billion is still a very small number, to invest in culture is extremely large. Cultural investment is not like we grow potatoes and sweet potatoes, which can be harvested from January to April, but it takes hundreds of years."

Mr. Nguyen Quang Thieu compared: "It only takes 10 seconds for a person passing by in a public place to throw a bag of trash on the street, but it takes hundreds of years for a passerby to see the bag of trash and automatically pick it up and throw it in the trash can." According to him, that time is the time to form beauty and cultural behavior.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Thieu, investing in culture is extremely necessary. He added: "Poet Huu Thinh, when he was Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association and a National Assembly Delegate, once spoke in the National Assembly: If we save or reduce one dong spent on culture, we have to spend 1,000 dong to build prisons."

Mr. Thieu believes that this saying does not carry a poetic spirit but is the truth, containing the importance of culture.

"If we abandon culture, if we save or reduce spending even one penny on culture, then a hundred years from now, our descendants will have to spend money together to build prisons for moral and personality issues," said Mr. Thieu.

Since then, the Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association has proposed that the State should have a reasonable and accurate investment policy for culture. He admitted that he has become a patient and inspired "beggar" since becoming Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association. He also mentioned many projects and works that the Vietnam Writers Association has done in the past.

"When a country has stable politics, a position in the world, and a good culture, that country is strong and does not fear threats to the survival of the nation," he emphasized.
