During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh believed that when the country was unified and the North and South were one, he would visit the people of the South. The two words “the South” always echoed in his mind. He once said: “The South is always in my heart”. When he was old and weak, in the midst of the fierce war in the South, he only urgently requested that the organization arrange for him to visit the people and soldiers of the South.
The people of the South in general and Bac Lieu in particular, although they have never had the chance to welcome Uncle Ho to visit, their feelings are always directed towards him with deep longing. They only hope that with determination to defeat the imperialists, the South will be liberated, the country will be unified, and the people of the South will welcome Uncle Ho to visit.
To show respect and mourn for him, after the funeral, the Vinh Loi District Party Committee, Soc Trang Province (now Vinh Loi District, Bac Lieu Province) directed and mobilized people in the entire district to build a temple to worship Uncle Ho.
In March 1970, Chau Thoi Commune Party Committee implemented the policy of Vinh Loi District Party Committee to build a temple to worship Uncle Ho. After the temple was burned down twice by the enemy, the people as well as Chau Thoi Commune Party Committee and Vinh Loi District Party Committee were determined to build a solid temple with cement, iron, etc.
The work of purchasing construction materials encountered many difficulties because they had to pass through many enemy outposts, but with the motivation of respect for Uncle Ho, the people of Chau Thoi commune volunteered to buy materials, each person buying a little, buying many times.
When preparations were completed, at 10:00 a.m. on April 25, 1972, Chau Thoi Commune Party Committee held a groundbreaking ceremony to build the temple to worship Uncle Ho. After 24 days and nights, not fearing enemy artillery fire, the people and Chau Thoi Commune Party Committee completed the construction of the temple.

After that, Vinh Loi District Party Committee temporarily borrowed a local house to hold a memorial service, mourn Uncle Ho and to serve as a place for people to offer incense to him.
In 1971, the enemy swept through Ba Chang A hamlet, and had the heart to burn down the place where Uncle Ho was worshiped. That action made the people indignant, determined to turn their grief into action. When the enemy destroyed the Temple, the heroic Chau Thoi army and people were determined to rebuild it. The following year, the construction of the Temple began and was completed in 24 hard, secret days. The Temple was safely protected until the day the country was reunified.
“I have been in charge of protecting and looking after Uncle Ho’s temple since 1972. Therefore, I remember very clearly every document and image about Uncle Ho displayed and preserved in the temple. When visitors come to visit, if anyone wants to learn more, I am ready to tell them everything, from the construction of the temple to the feelings of Chau Thoi people for Uncle Ho during the resistance war as well as at present,” Mr. Bay Khoa added.
