Although recognized as meeting national standards level 1 since 2023, for many years, Chieng Co Primary and Secondary School in Chieng Coi ward has lacked adequate facilities, especially classrooms and functional rooms, affecting the organization of educational activities. In July 2025, joy came to the teachers and students when the school received investment to build a 3-story classroom building with an area of over 400m2, including many facilities such as classrooms, functional rooms, a waiting room for teachers, a library, and a canteen for boarding students... with a total investment of over 6.4 billion VND from the provincial budget.
Ms. Tran Thi Khanh Hong, Principal of Chieng Co Primary and Secondary School, shared: "Currently, the construction unit is focusing on installing the electrical and water systems, completing the wall painting, and is expected to hand over the project before December 30th this year. The entire staff, teachers, and students of the school are very excited to welcome the building into use, providing teachers and students with a more spacious and comfortable space to serve teaching and learning."

Chiềng Cơi Ward has 7 public educational institutions with over 4,000 students, and 100% of schools organize classes for two sessions per day. Since the beginning of the school year, the Ward Party Committee has established a working group to inspect and review the physical facilities of each school, allocating over 800 million VND to invest in and repair some classroom buildings, and supplement equipment for educational institutions, ensuring the effective implementation of teaching and learning tasks. After operating the two-tiered government model, the ward received two investment projects in the education sector, and has paid attention to directing the construction units to ensure the progress and quality of the projects.
In the particularly disadvantaged areas of the province, the appearance of educational facilities has undergone many positive changes in recent years. Visiting Chieng Dong Secondary School in Yen Chau commune, we were impressed by the green, clean, and beautiful landscape and the well-invested infrastructure. Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan, the school's principal, said: In 2023 and 2024, from the funding of Project 5 - National Target Program 1719, the school received over 3.5 billion VND to repair and upgrade many facilities including classrooms, restrooms, and grounds. In particular, the school was able to build four boarding rooms, meeting the living and learning needs of over 70 Mong ethnic minority students from two particularly disadvantaged villages, Suoi Duong and Huoi Chieu, located more than 30km from the center, who are currently studying at the school. Thanks to this, the school has been able to maintain student enrollment and improve the quality of teaching and learning. To date, the school has achieved national standards level 1.

Aiming to build a national standard school system that meets the requirements of innovation and integration, the province will allocate nearly 65 billion VND in 2025 to build and upgrade school facilities; repair and upgrade 251 classrooms; build and renovate 51 functional rooms and teacher's offices; construct 9 sanitary facilities, school grounds, and kitchens; and supplement teaching equipment for 99 boarding schools. To date, the percentage of solid and semi-solid classrooms throughout the province has reached 95.5%.
Mr. Nguyen Van Chien, Director of the Department of Education and Training, informed that 572 out of 609 schools in the province currently meet the minimum infrastructure standards as stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Training . The school network continues to expand and standardize. In particular, Son La province has 13 integrated primary and secondary boarding schools under construction, in accordance with Conclusion No. 81-KL/TW of the Politburo, with a total investment of over 3,450 billion VND. It is expected that these projects will be completed in 2026, meeting the learning and living needs of nearly 20,000 students in border communes.

Along with the state budget, during the 2020-2025 period, Son La province mobilized hundreds of billions of VND from businesses, organizations, and individuals to invest in building and repairing school buildings and supplementing teaching equipment for schools. The Son La education sector aims to ensure that by the end of 2026, 100% of educational facilities will be structurally sound and meet the required standards, contributing to meeting the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program reform and creating momentum to promote comprehensive and sustainable educational development.
