In 2025, Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) will invest 2,500 billion VND in Vinh Long province, including 847 billion VND for developing the medium and low voltage grid and 1,712 billion VND for renovating and constructing the 110kV grid.
During the implementation process, many projects are still stuck in site clearance. The province is focusing on removing difficulties to ensure stable power supply, creating a “leverage” to promote socio -economic development.

Electricity supply situation
As of July 2025, Vinh Long province is operating 4 types of power sources with a total installed capacity of about 5,422MW. Of which, 4 coal-fired thermal power plants with a total capacity of 4,498MW, 13 wind power plants with a total capacity of 572MW, 2 solar power projects with a capacity of 189MW, 4,417 rooftop solar power systems, with a total installed capacity of 163.8MW.
The installed capacity of renewable energy sources accounts for 17%, of which wind power plant capacity accounts for 0.5%, solar power 6.5% and the cluster of 4 Duyen Hai coal-fired power plants accounts for 83.14% of the total installed capacity.
In addition, the province also has many projects under construction such as: 14 wind power projects with a total capacity of 1,099.75 MW; 1 biomass power project of 25 MW and 1 solid waste incineration power project of 15 MW. These projects are scheduled to operate in 2025 and 2026, thereby helping to increase the total source capacity to 6,561 MW, when the proportion of electricity from renewable energy accounts for 31% of the total installed capacity of power sources.
Regarding the medium and low voltage grid, in 2025, 63 new medium and low voltage grid projects will be invested in, with a total investment of VND 847.96 billion. Currently, 37/63 projects have been energized, 17/63 are under construction, and 9/63 projects are in the process of selecting construction contractors and purchasing materials and equipment.
It is expected that by the end of 2025, Vinh Long Power Company will complete energizing 100% of the project. This means that the province will develop an additional 335.97km of medium-voltage lines; 733.05km of low-voltage lines, 849 transformer stations, with a capacity of 111.32MVA.
Mr. Dao Hoa Binh - Deputy General Director of EVNSPC said: In the first 6 months of 2025, EVNSPC has put into operation 7 110kV power grid projects with a total investment of 500 billion VND. EVNSPC is committed to providing sufficient, safe and reliable electricity to meet the socio-economic development needs of the province.
Specifically, in 2025, EVNSPC will invest VND 2,500 billion in Vinh Long province, of which VND 847 billion will be used to develop the medium and low voltage grid and VND 1,712 billion will be used to renovate and build the 110kV grid. EVNSPC requests the Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Committee and relevant departments and branches to support the site clearance work - as this is a key task; support legal procedures for settlement... to ensure stable power supply.
Removing difficulties
Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade said: "Electricity must come first, then the economy will develop, it is impossible to develop the economy without electricity, this is a very clear viewpoint of the province's industry and trade sector".

Regarding difficulties, for transformer stations and 110kV lines, the current power supply still has some 110kV lines operating at high loads such as: line 175 Ben Tre 2-172 Giong Trom (loaded at 95.36%); line 173 Giong Trom-171 Binh Dai (loaded at 93.09%). The 110kV Cau Ngang-Tra Vinh 2 line operates at full overload (80-90%) when wind power plants generate low capacity or cannot generate capacity.
The whole province is implementing 7 projects, with a total investment of 931 billion VND, a line length of 161km, a capacity of 40MVA including: 110kV Ba Tri- Binh Thanh line project, a total line length of 18km, a total investment of about 185 billion VND.
Phu Thuan - Binh Dai 110kV transmission line project. Vung Liem - Tra Vinh 2 110kV transmission line phase division project. Dan Thanh 110kV station and connecting line. Upgrading the cross-section of the phase division wire from ACSR240 to 2ACSR240 from Tra Vinh to Duyen Hai (Duyen Tra). Circuit 2 transmission line from Tra Vinh 2 220kV station - Cau Ke 110kV station (length 24.14km, total investment 183.1 billion VND, this project has not started yet, there is Decision No. 1148/QD-UBND dated May 16, 2025 on approving the investment policy at the same time as approving the investor).
110kV Duyen Hai 220kV station exposed, total investment 83.75 billion VND. The projects are being implemented with site clearance and construction, some households request high compensation prices, have not accepted the money because they do not agree on the compensation price, leading to delays compared to the plan.
Mr. Nguyen Truc Son - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed: All levels of government and departments have made efforts in management and operation, completing many set goals. The coordination between agencies and units is also considered good.
In the coming time, the key tasks that need to be carried out include continuing to implement key investment projects, speeding up progress; focusing on resolving difficulties and problems in power supply and site clearance; strengthening management, operation and coordination between agencies and units; ensuring the completion of the province's socio-economic development targets and plans.
