On the afternoon of October 10, Dr. Truong Anh Dung - Director of the Department of Vocational Education , Ministry of Education and Training - informed that the vocational education system in the coming time will have many changes, especially with the appearance of vocational secondary schools.
He shared at the conference to contribute ideas and guide the development of strategies and plans for vocational education, organized by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.
Specifically, Mr. Dung said a major change is that the input of intermediate schools will be students after high school, except for special fields such as gifted. Meanwhile, currently, the major source of recruitment for many intermediate schools is the group of junior high school graduates entering vocational training.
The input of vocational high schools will be students who have graduated from junior high school. The vocational high school program will be equivalent to the high school level. Students can complete the general education program and learn a trade at the same time.
"Vocational high school is not about establishing a vocational high school. Our consulting view is that it is a program at a school," said Mr. Dung.
He further explained that according to the draft Law on Vocational Education (amended), a college can teach college programs, intermediate programs, vocational secondary programs...
Or a junior college can also teach intermediate programs, vocational secondary programs...
According to him, localities can be proactive in arranging the school network. When a place already has a college or intermediate school in the area, it is not necessary to have a vocational high school.
Regarding the arrangement of public service units, Ms. Truong Hai Thanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City - informed that in the near future, there will no longer be public secondary schools in Ho Chi Minh City.
In particular, many public secondary schools will be merged into colleges to increase operational efficiency.
According to Ms. Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City has proactively informed schools, learned about the conditions, activities and reality of the schools. On that basis, there will be arrangement plans with the spirit of school units developing together.
Currently, after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City has about 400 vocational education facilities, including 74 colleges, 71 secondary schools, the rest are vocational education centers - continuing education, and facilities with vocational education training.
The number is relatively large compared to other economic regions in the country.
