District Agricultural Center builds Snail Farming Model in Da Kho Commune

• MANY DEMONSTRATION AND EXPERIMENTAL MODELS

Since the beginning of 2025, the District Agricultural Center has coordinated with the Southern Institute of Science and Technology to organize a preliminary assessment of the construction of an organic rice production area in the district with a scale of 50 hectares; visit the Rice - Shrimp Production Model in the organic rice production model in Gia Vien commune and Link the consumption of rice products for rice products through QR codes with 30 participating households. The Center has coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with Da Lat Milk Joint Stock Company and localities to organize a dialogue and listen to the wishes and difficulties of dairy farmers to promptly support and resolve them with 27 participating households.

Organize propaganda campaigns on disease prevention and control in livestock (especially avian influenza) and propaganda on measures to prevent fall armyworms in corn. Through training and propaganda courses, people have been equipped with useful knowledge in the field of agricultural production and applied to production.

Deploying demonstration and testing models, the District Agricultural Center implemented the following models: High-quality Rice Intensive Cultivation Model in Phuoc Cat town with an implementation scale of 1.7 ha/3 households, cultivating Dai Thom 8 rice variety.

The pilot model of the new cashew variety LBC5 combined with the application of advanced techniques for dense planting to renovate cashew gardens will be implemented from 2022, and will be monitored for 3 years (from April 2022 to April 2025). Implemented at 3 locations/1.5 ha in Madaguoi town, Da Ton commune (now Da Oai new commune) and Doan Ket commune (now Ba Gia commune), each commune has 1 household/0.5 ha.

The model of controlling stem-canker disease on durian trees is implemented by 1 household/1 hectare in Da Lay commune. Farmers are focusing on care. The first flowering rate accounts for about 55% of the total garden area. The fruit-setting rate on the first flowers is 85%. The fruits are now about 30 days old. The second flowers have finished blooming and are in the fruit-setting stage. Farmers are currently focusing on pest control measures, leaf care, and young fruit nurturing. The trees are growing steadily, with no signs of weakening or shedding leaves. The basic disease rate is controlled below the statistical level.

The model of raising Lac snails with an area of 144 m2, 50,000 young snails, located in Da Kho commune is developing well, no diseases have occurred. Through the implementation and monitoring process, it was initially found that this is a snail species with a fast growth time, delicious meat quality, providing local food for the locality and neighboring areas, increasing farmers' income.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Tham - Director of the District Agricultural Center said: After successfully implementing the demonstration and testing models, the District Agricultural Center will develop a summary report, evaluate the effectiveness of the model and organize a workshop to introduce the model results to farmers. Technical staff of the Agricultural Center will continue to monitor and provide technical guidance to farmers to ensure implementation according to the approved outline.

• IMPLEMENTATION OF PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS

Along with that, Da Huoai district continues to implement programs and projects such as: Rubber program focusing on ethnic minority areas with a scale of 185 ha/2 communes (of which, Quoc Oai commune 120 ha, My Duc commune 65 ha). Farmers have stopped tapping rubber latex since January 15, 2025. Currently, the rubber area is in the period of young leaves, growing well. To ensure that rubber trees soon stabilize their canopy and increase resistance to pests and diseases, the Agricultural Center has coordinated with the People's Committees of My Duc and Quoc Oai communes to guide farmers to focus on taking care of their plants.

The bamboo program has been implemented on a scale of 50.87 ha/43 households, the bamboo has grown well, maintaining a stable number of 25 - 30 trees/bush, with a planting density of 500 bushes/ha. The unit continues to coordinate with the People's Committee of An Nhon commune, the To Lan Agricultural and Service Cooperative (HTX) to direct farmers to continue taking care of the bamboo, expected to be exploited from May 2025.

The VietGAP standard production program on rice plants covers an area of 805 hectares, including 160 hectares in Da Teh town, 65 hectares in Quang Tri commune (formerly Trieu Hai), 42 hectares in Da Kho commune and 538 hectares in An Nhon commune. The durian plant covers an area of 200 hectares, including 1 cooperative in Da Teh town with an area of 69.5 hectares; 3 cooperatives in Da Lay commune with an area of 130.5 hectares.

New strawberry production program in year 2 with a scale of 2 hectares in Da Kho commune and Quang Tri commune. Building and maintaining the 2023 Disease-Free Strawberry Model with a scale of 6 hectares in Quoc Oai commune (4 hectares), Trieu Hai (old) 2 hectares. Building the 2024 Disease-Free Strawberry Model with a scale of 3.3 hectares in Quoc Oai and Trieu Hai communes (old). Converting strawberry areas to other crops in Quang Tri, My Duc and Quoc Oai communes.

Along with that, the District Agricultural Center has implemented the project of diversifying livelihoods, developing poverty reduction models under the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction; improving the efficiency of production organization forms; supporting the milking machine system for the Cat Tien Livestock and Dairy Service Cooperative. Supporting projects to develop production linked to the value chain, linking production with product consumption. Implementing the Agricultural Extension and Veterinary Project at the grassroots level in the form of public service for agricultural economic activities and rural development.

Accompanying farmers and focusing on the grassroots, the agricultural extension system in Da Huoai district has truly become a bridge of knowledge, bringing science and technology to each field and each farmer's household, contributing to changing production thinking, promoting the shift in crop structure, and promoting sustainable development of the agricultural sector.
