Arriving early at the exam site of Phan Huy Chu High School, candidate Le Nguyen Ngoc Cham (student of Khuong Dinh Secondary School, Hanoi) took the opportunity to eat breakfast and review some math formulas.

The math exam for 10th grade public schools in Hanoi lasts 120 minutes.

The female student shared: "The Literature subject's questions are relatively close to the curriculum and my predicted exam. I scored myself about 8 points for the Literature subject. This year's exam was quite easy, the knowledge was completely in the textbook and there were no tricky questions. However, most students rated the English subject as having more difficult questions than last year. I compared the answers to the score and only scored about 6 points."

Ngoc Cham set her goal to enter Kim Lien High School, the average admission score in previous years was about 8 - 8.2 points per subject to pass. Therefore, the female student was quite stressed when her English score was low. Cham estimated that her target score for the Math test was 8.5 points or higher to have a chance to pass the school of her first choice.

Despite doing well in the Literature and English exams, candidate Lam Quoc Truong (a student at Chu Van An Secondary School, Hanoi) was still quite stressed. "Yesterday's Literature and English exams were somewhat more difficult than last year. After the first day of the exam, many of my classmates complained of having difficulty with some English questions, including me. I think the average score this year will be low. If that is true, the competition for admission scores will be even more fierce," Truong said.

Therefore, Quoc Truong is determined to put all his effort into the Math exam to achieve a high score of 8.5 - 9 or higher, to make up for the lost points in English to get a place at Yen Hoa High School (Cau Giay, Hanoi).

This year, more than 129,000 candidates will be considered for recognition of graduating from junior high school, of which more than 115,000 will take the 10th grade entrance exam across the city. According to the assigned quota, schools in the area will enroll 69,805 candidates into the public system (in 2022, more than 69,200 students will be enrolled).

The number of candidates this year increased by about 1,000 candidates compared to last year, so the admission rate to public high schools also increased compared to last year. Specifically, the admission rate to grade 10 this year is more than 62%.

In the specialized system (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted, Chu Van An High School, Son Tay High School), the total number of registered candidates is 11,283. Total quota is 1,895.

Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Department of Education and Training, informed that Hanoi is the locality with the largest number of candidates registering for the 10th grade entrance exam in the country with more than 116,000 students registering. Hanoi has established 201 exam sites with nearly 5,000 exam rooms in 30 districts, towns and cities to serve the candidates.

The entire city has about 20,000 officers and teachers working in exam supervision and grading. In addition, there are 590 supervisors at exam sites and more than 1,000 police officers and soldiers performing the task of protecting the exam area.

In hot weather conditions, all examination sites have enhanced health care conditions for candidates to the maximum. The electricity sector has committed to ensuring no power outages at examination sites, all 201 examination sites have backup generators.

To ensure objectivity, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training requires exam sites to assign exam supervisors according to the principle that each exam room will have 2 exam supervisors from 2 different schools; exam supervisors will not supervise the exam more than once in one exam room.

During the performance of their duties, members of the examination site must comply with the assignment, comply with the direction of the examination site manager, and properly implement the examination regulations and instructions. The examination site manager is responsible for assigning examination invigilators and members to perform duties at the examination site to ensure that the people are clearly identified, the work is confidential, and the procedures are correct and complete.
