On November 28, the Ministry of Home Affairs sent an official dispatch to the Ministry of Public Security regarding handling of false information about the merger of provinces and cities in Vietnam.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said that in recent days, social networks have been sharing a lot of information about "merging 63 provinces and centrally-run cities into 31 provincial-level administrative units".

The Ministry of Home Affairs affirms that up to now, it has not proposed that the Government and competent authorities merge any provincial administrative units.
Because the above issue is important content, it needs to be studied thoroughly, carefully and must be based on the Party's policy.
The merger of provincial administrative units is not only based on the criteria of natural area and population size but also on other criteria such as national security, sovereignty protection, geopolitical position, regional planning, national and cultural community. Especially ensuring stability for socio-economic development.
Requesting the Ministry of Public Security to handle the rumor of 'merging 63 provinces to 31'
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the information spread on social networks has caused confusion and affected social stability. This agency therefore requested the Ministry of Public Security to direct the cyber security agency to review and handle the posting of the above false information.
Yesterday, November 27, regarding this issue, Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra also spoke out to deny the rumor.
The head of the Ministry of Home Affairs said that this agency and related units are implementing the restructuring of the apparatus towards streamlining, effectiveness and efficiency, as directed by the Politburo and General Secretary To Lam.
This content has been affirmed by the 13th Central Executive Committee as "a particularly important task, a revolution in streamlining the organizational apparatus of the political system, requiring a very high level of unity in perception and action throughout the Party and the entire political system".
Ms. Tra said that in the immediate future, the restructuring of the apparatus will be implemented at the central level. The restructuring of provincial administrative units will be implemented later and there is currently no policy to immediately merge provinces and cities.
Therefore, the information and images being spread on social networks are incorrect.
