DTO - In recent times, the Dong Thap Province Youth and Children's Creativity Contest (abbreviated as the Contest) has contributed to awakening the potential and promoting the creative thinking of youth and children in the province. Thereby, helping them to improve their knowledge, practice their creative skills, and nurture their dreams of becoming inventors in the future.

Incubate creativity
In recent times, Dong Thap province has organized many different competitions to arouse the spirit of creativity and passion for research among teenagers and children such as: Science and Technology Competition for high school students and STEM Festival organized by the Department of Education and Training of Dong Thap province; Startup Idea Competition, Startup and Innovation Competition organized by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Dong Thap province... In which, the Dong Thap Youth and Children's Creativity Competition is a useful playground, attracting many teenagers to participate and after 17 years of organization, more than 2,400 models and products have been awarded at the provincial competition and 20 national awards. The competition is co-organized by 4 agencies including: Dong Thap Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations - Standing Agency of the Organizing Committee of the Competition; Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the province; Department of Education and Training; Department of Science and Technology.
The contest is held annually with the aim of finding, encouraging and honoring the creativity of students in the province; arousing passion and creativity in the young generation, helping them nurture and light the flame of creative passion to become scientists and young inventors in the future. The contest has created a useful and attractive playground and attracted the participation of a large number of students from primary to high school. The contest products are rich, diverse, and the quality is increasingly improved; many products have information technology applications and use sensors to control and operate accurately, reducing manual work; most of the models and products come from the learning process and from the practical life around the students...
The above results are due to the attention paid to propaganda work, all localities have established Organizing Committees, rules, plans for organizing the Contest, and Secretariat. The Organizing Committees of the Districts and Cities have paid attention to implementing and assigning specific tasks to the members of the Organizing Committee (Department of Culture, Science and Information, Department of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Department of Economy and Infrastructure)... have proactively coordinated, used Infographics, social networks, and directives to widely propagate the rules and methods of participating in the Contest...
Looking from the provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region, the Contest also brings a good effect to the creative movement of young people and children. According to MSc. Thai Thuy Xuan - Vice President of the Union of Science and Technology Associations of An Giang: "From the practical implementation of the Contest in An Giang in the past time, it has affirmed its role as a useful intellectual playground, promoting the movement of learning and scientific creativity among young people, while searching for and nurturing creative talents for the province. In the context that the country is promoting the development of scientific thinking, technology and innovation in the new era, the era of national development, focusing on fostering creative thinking and scientific skills for the young generation right from when they are in school has strategic significance. From there, it contributes to nurturing the scientific spirit, building a young generation who loves research and is passionate about creativity...".
Mr. Luu Van Giu - teacher of Vinh Thoi Secondary School (Lai Vung District) said: “The contest is a useful intellectual playground for students, arousing and nurturing passion for scientific research, forming creative thinking from adolescence. In Dong Thap province, the contest has been implemented regularly every year, attracting the attention of a large number of students, parents, teachers and educational institutions. The contest also contributes to discovering and nurturing young talents in the field of science and technology, creating a premise for them to approach in-depth research later. In particular, being honored at the provincial and national levels helps students become more confident, develop presentation skills, persuasion and teamwork - important skills in the era of integration and digital transformation...”.

Promoting the value of the Contest
Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan - Vice President of the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Dong Thap said: "The results achieved by the Contest over the past time are the result of a process of active and responsible work with many innovations by the Organizing Committee and the Jury Council of the Contest at the provincial and district levels. Especially, it demonstrates the enthusiasm and sense of responsibility of Dong Thap youth towards the community. Thereby, helping students realize the meaning and value of the Contest to build many diverse and quality models and products with novelty, creativity and the ability to apply in practice to participate in the Contest...".
According to the Dong Thap Union of Science and Technology Associations, in addition to the achieved results, the organization of the Contest in Dong Thap province still has some difficulties and limitations such as: the implementation is not uniform; some localities still face difficulties due to the arrangement of the organizational apparatus, many new staff are in charge of the content of the Contest, so they are still confused in consulting and implementing; there are not many solutions to mobilize participation, especially students from high schools in the district; there are no solutions to overcome the problems of products with duplicate ideas, lacking novelty and breakthrough...
Mr. Nguyen Huy Phuc - Vice President of the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Ben Tre shared: “To raise the level of the Contest, it is necessary to closely coordinate between sectors and levels in the province to thoroughly disseminate the purpose, meaning and criteria of the Contest; create consensus and support in spirit and material in the political system, especially for leaders of sectors and levels in the province; Youth Union, Young Pioneers, schools, parents, union members, young pioneers, students... to create a combined strength to contribute to the successful implementation of the meaningful purpose of the Contest; promptly discover, commend, reward and replicate new, good, creative ways of doing things, effective models...”.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung - teacher of Nguyen Van Tiep Secondary School (Tan Hong District) proposed: "It is necessary to strengthen propaganda, raise awareness and launch the contest right from the beginning of the school year, combining propaganda in many forms such as: television, social networks, school bulletin boards, flag-salute activities; set examples of models and products that won high prizes in previous years to inspire students and teachers; organize short-term training courses for teachers on methods of guiding students in scientific research, model design, and use of supporting software; organize Creative Clubs in schools, create an environment for students to practice regularly and learn from each other; build a mechanism to support funding for potential topics at school and district levels. At the same time, invite businesses, technology experts, and university lecturers to participate in the process of advising and reviewing topics to participate in the National Competition; encourage topics with practical applications, suitable for local conditions such as: environmental protection, energy saving, health care...
