At the end of the 120-minute literature exam, many candidates left with cheerful smiles because the open-ended essay questions were close to their daily lives. The theory part was also part of the teachers' review program for the 9th grade. Many students were confident of getting a score of 7-8.
Regarding the structure of the literature exam, Ms. Pham Thi My Ly - literature teacher at Chau Van Liem High School (Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City) - assessed that the exam closely followed the new 2018 generaleducation program, but still ensured the classification of students.
The topic opens up for students with a realistic theme of a modern poem about a mother "Writing for children" (author Le Thu). In addition to the theoretical reading comprehension of the poem, grammar analysis... the questions also require students to present their understanding of a mother's feelings for her child through the line "In glory, children must bow their heads"...
From sentence number 5, with the writing requirement: To "live a worthy life" (in the content of the poem), in your opinion, what should young people do? Why? In this sentence, we will begin to classify students, those who are good at literature or average will write based on their own feelings. For those who are proactive and independent in studying and life, they will have a way of understanding and writing based on their own experiences. For those who are overprotected by their parents, they will have less experience and of course their writing will be more limited.
In the writing section (6 points), there are two social argumentative essays that are both related to the reality of parents' feelings for their children and the children's maturity in life.

Students write this part mainly based on accumulated knowledge and feelings about their own lifestyle and maturity. “This type of writing requires thinking, flexibility in combining topics and content related to the knowledge learned and the social reality that students hear and see every day and their own reality in their families. Students will write based on their experiences, proactive students will propose realistic solutions,” commented Ms. My Ly.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City, because this is the first exam for students studying under the 2018 general education program, the new point of the exam in each subject is to closely follow the program's objectives, promoting students' abilities and qualities.
