(Dan Tri) - All 12th grade students at Tran Huu Trang High School, Ho Chi Minh City, must retake the English test at the end of the first semester because all 4 test codes have errors from 11 to 15 questions/code.
According to feedback from parents and students, the final exam for the first semester of English for grade 12 at Tran Huu Trang High School took place on November 23.
When reading the exam questions, many students discovered dozens of errors in all the exam codes. At that moment, the teacher corrected the errors in the exam questions and added 10 minutes to the students' time.
After the exam, students received notice that the school would retest their English.
Regarding the incident, Mr. Tran Thanh Phong, Principal of Tran Huu Trang High School, said that all 4 final exam codes for the first semester of English subject for grade 12 of the school had errors. The total number of error-prone tests was 310, equivalent to 310 students in the entire grade 12.
Mr. Phong explained that this error did not come from professional knowledge but from a technical error in the process of mixing the questions.
Specifically, according to the question-making process, teachers in the group will create questions for the subject group leader to choose from and then form 2 new sets of questions. Each set of questions will be mixed into 4 codes, then a random draw will be made to select one set of questions for the official test.
During the process of mixing questions, for English questions, when mixing questions, phrases and groups of words will run with the accompanying answer options.
However, with this grade 12 English test, the order of filling in words and the answers of the questions do not correspond when the questions are mixed. Therefore, the answers are different from the questions.
The principal added that according to the English group's report, the test had at least 11 and at most 15 errors, all in the reading comprehension section.
When students complained at the beginning of the exam, the school increased the test time by 10 minutes. However, with many test codes having errors, and many questions having errors, it took a lot of time to correct the test in one room for students to do.
After discussion, the school agreed to re-test 12th grade students in English, ensuring accuracy and fairness for them.
The school requires the head of the subject group to check the questions carefully before printing them, and not to be subjective and make unnecessary mistakes.
The re-examination is scheduled to take place next week, right after the New Year holiday.
