The Vietnam Road Administration has just submitted a document to the Ministry of Transport regarding the organization of placing maximum speed signs on some expressways designed with 4 lanes.
According to the Vietnam Road Administration, there are currently a total of about 1,892 km of highways in use nationwide. Some investment-phased routes with 4 lanes have been directed by the Ministry of Transport to have the Project Management Boards (Project Investors) install signs with a maximum speed limit of 90 km/h, such as: Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho, Trung Luong - My Thuan, My Thuan - Can Tho sections, etc.
Implementing the direction of the Ministry of Transport on reviewing and increasing the maximum speed to 90km/h for these routes, the Vietnam Road Administration has consulted with specialized departments and project management boards.
Mai Son - National Highway 45 is eligible to increase the maximum speed to 90km/h
Synthesizing opinions, the Vietnam Road Administration said that there are 8 expressway sections that are eligible to increase the operating speed to a maximum of 90km/h, including: Lao Cai - Kim Thanh, Cao Bo - Mai Son, Mai Son - National Highway 45, National Highway 45 - Nghi Son, Nghi Son - Dien Chau, Nha Trang - Cam Lam, Cam Lam - Vinh Hao, Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet, My Thuan - Can Tho.
For the above expressway sections, the Vietnam Road Administration recommends that relevant agencies install signs indicating the maximum speed allowed is 90km/h for cars and passenger cars with up to 30 seats (except buses). For trucks with a load capacity of ≤ 3.5 tons, the remaining vehicles maintain the maximum speed allowed at 80km/h.
The Department also recommended that the Ministry of Transport direct units to complete the sign installation in January 2024.
